I logged into ebay today to a message reading that I had been suspended and BANNED from using the site. Now I am familiar with account suspension, but banning is a new thing. I sent a few e-mails and it seems it was all about dev hardware sales and they had a complaint from some parent company over certain items that read "TEST". Needless to say this is an interesting twist, but could be an ominous sign for future sales of dev items on ebay. I would say to people selling to use as little description as possible if you're selling anything beyond the normal atari eprom cart.
I was banned for 6 months once, back in the "no mod talk" days, even if it was for imports. I fucked up on a template and left it in. In my short experience, they warn you for the specific offending item(s), and then if you offend again, will once again point out the offending item. You should call them to get some more info. Oh, yeah -- welcome to the world of open proxies.
Those fucking cunts, I can´t understand some people, and I feel your pain, even though I can´t directly relate to this particular situation, but I can put it in a perspective.
You know what's weird. Mercado Livre, a brazilian auction site, is owned by Ebay. And there you can find tons of piracy and bootleg stuff. Shouldn't some companies sue Ebay because of that?
eBay is impartial to the whole piracy/dev/bootleg thing, the issue is that companies are on eBay's back for auctions all the time. eBay doesn't actually understand the laws, they deal with complaints, if a Sony representative were to complain about the vast number of "stolen" items Assembler sold, there's no doubt eBay would side with Sony.
It does suck for collectors, but from a purely legal POV Sony is well within its rights to have eBay pull the items. After all they are technically licensed and not sold and cannot be transferred to someone who doesn't have a dev license with Sony. While it *is* possible to own a devkit without a license, it's very rare and somewhat difficult to do. The majority of devkits sold are technically stolen property. Most collectors know this. Since eBay's so big, of course Sony's going to go after it. Small places, it'll overlook because it's not worth Sony's time. -hl718
Damn! That sucks! I'd hate to be IP banned from Ebay. They are sometimes the ONLY way to get rare items. You sure you can't use a proxy server or something and get a new account?? I know the feedback would be low, but its just something you could think about.
That's fucking bullshit. This is becasue of Old Engineer, isn't it? There's no reason they would stake you out from the thousands of people who sell the exact same kind of merchandise you sell every month. Somebody is fucking ratting on you, and it's not a big leap to figure out who it is. Maybe it's time you find out who it is and shove your boot up thier ass. Still even if this isn't a result of some asshole's personal vendetta against you, I still can't see how Ebay can justify kicking you off while hundreds of scammers pilfer thier auctions on a 24/7 basis. It's not like you were selling shrunken heads or fetuses.
I don't know, but I certainly have alot of people who don't like me. I can set up a new account, but I will only use it for normal items. I think I'll just set up my own webshop to avoid ebay's rules. And it was "selling items that circumvent copy protection" Namely TEST ps2 units.
Hell, they removed my auction for a PSP due to their "circumvention" clause. Good luck trying to find out who ratted on you, if you even care, since they won't give anyone that information without a lawsuit. Of course, they will remove just about anything if you tell them to, with or without cause or authority. Let us know when your shop is set up.
lets just say I had a "firewall" setup for my ebay info. I just need to make a new bank account, change the p.o. box number, and I'm back in business.
