Can we have some distinction between normal users and banned one?
For example, most forums have some kind of subtitle that shows a user is banned. Some, for example, facepunch, switches the avatar/profile picture to a big red BAN sign, signifying that the user is no more for that site.
For reference, and since this was very recent, lets look at GmanWillis's profile!
If you look at his post, for example the incorrectly placed rep thread that he is the OP of, you will see no distinction from him and the typical law abiding joe schmo'.
If you click on his profile, you will find his avatar has been completely untouched - a large photo of his bald ugly mug still remains. But if you didn't know about the fact that he was a now-banned scammer, you would probably message him or try to contact him if you needed something. Since they obviously cant respond to PM's it's just a waste of time, which could have all been avoided had there been proper distinction.
It's a simple, but very helpful fix. Please consider it.
    Thanks.

Unless there's some v-bulletin plug-in that can be installed to do this (and back date all mark ups), they'd have to go through the list of users who are banned and write 'banned' into their profile for everyone to see which at this point (considering the forum goes back a hell of a long way) would be a complete and utter ball ache to do.

I'd say make it a thing starting now, maybe going just a slight bit back. If they were banned a while ago, then they'd appear offline for a very long time and then that'd give it away.

Yea it would, how long has this site been up 9 years? I just guessed that from ASSEMbler's registered date. I never even knew about this site until mid 2011 after being on TTG for a while.

When you ban someone in VB - they get moved to the banned group. The banned group has the "Banned" title.

I see no reason (after being the admin of several forums, one of which much larger than this site) as to why it would be difficult and why it wasnt already like that in the first place.

Kev's been doing it manually for a while, even before I was around.

Yeah, I've said it several times before (the last time being 2 hours before this thread was started lol).

It's easy enough to do - as Bad_ad says, they're in a banned user group so it should be easy to implement.

    Yeah,.. here:

Before that, this thread suggested this mod. I've not done vBulletin admin for a while, so I don't think I still have download privileges and I'm not up-to-date with the latest features, but that mod would be worth a try ;)

Yeah, I thought there was a plugin for it. I know they get moved to a banned group, I just thought by now it would automatically label banned users as banned.

I've modded and admined on both PHP-BB and V-bulletin and I'm sure the latter did it automatically whereas PHP-BB we had to do it manually.

Have you tried that mod? Is it any good?

It looks like NG.com might manually alter the user group and custom class of the user after banning, but I'm not sure:

You dont really need the mod (other than for the avatar). You can set the title on the group, rather than per user. Set that group so custom title isnt allowed (so its forced to use the group one) - done.

True, but the idea of using the custom title to state why the member was banned is an interesting idea. Would that still work if you did that?

Custom titles would be per member, which is going to be a manual process anyway you cut it.

However, a mod adding that into the banning script/process is certainly easier (and more likely to be used) than having to dig around the users profile. So its not a bad idea I guess

Banned users have a separate, subtle class of their own.
    1. No drama
    2. They vanish into the realm of "stopped posting idk"

Branding someone banned can cause direct conflict among users over the decision.

I prefer that people just vanish, not become a dark mark upon the threads with a huge avatar stating their dismissal.

As to all the odd errors, I am using vbulletin's software... they have a ton of bugs.
It's really not a good software as it used to be.

A lot of your odd errors are things that didnt get upgraded properly by their automatic upgrade and require manual repair.

It was a fresh install, the fact that this happens infuriates me. I have asked for support many times but the VB forum is dead as a graveyard.

Now I have to pay for support, just to fix shit that should have worked out of the box.

Add in I have maybe 3-4 hours a day to myself for leisure and minor problems get ignored...

A lot of the settings/styles are within the database - which you kept (as all the content is still here). I wasnt talking about the files etc
