Seriously its such bullshit. Im tired of my family think I don't know shit when I know alot more than them. Then i dont get a word of apology when I prove that im right take this for example. My aunt's computer was full of shit again and she wont let me near it claiming im too young and dont know how to. She pays £70 for the virus removal. That same week I bought a computer cheap full of that shit and had it cleared in a few hours. I told her that and she was like 'oh well' Despite being proved wrong. Its not just her its fucking everyone who reckon there right because there older than me.OH:

 

Get use to it. It gets worse when you're in a work environment and people look down on you even though you have more years of experience then they do. =P

 

Well, IMO, you are lacking some kind of "reputation" around... nerdy reputation (=P) perhaps. Cause, in a lot of families, I know people easily considered to be the best option fo this kind of work/favor/whatever...

So, don't take it so serious. It's her loss, not yours.

 

I used to have the same problem with my mums side of the family untill I proved them wrong buy making a profit from there stupidity...now they always come to me and pay me to fix electrical/electronic stuff.

 

I never had that problem. I guess a strong stereotype that Chinese people know everything still exists. (^_^);

But I guess it doesn't hurt that when I talk about something I usually do it in a very formal, polite, confident "Like I always know what the hell I'm talking about" kind of way. I'm sure if I went "Check it out dude, if we change this mofo out we can remove all your spyware" it wouldn't work so well.

Yep. Always had this problem. It gets easier over time. Now people come to me for all sorts of electronic repairs. Even people who had previously denied my help. Strange world, eh?

 

Just wait until it's a potential boss that seems to turn you down, as opposed to just your family.

People patronize me all the time. I give good advice but for some reason people cover their ears to what I say go LALALALALALALALALALALALALALALALA then when they crash and burn they come back to me and say I should've listened to you.

With the way you're handling it I can't say I'd bring my hardware to you either if I were them.

 

Case 1-My cousin has it in his mind he wants to go to Full Sail I told him 50 times at least it's not an accredited school and that it's a scam...nope and his mom is no better insisting they're "the best in the world" uh...yeah... He wants to do film my own research shows the best school for that is NYU.

Case 2- This girl Carrie she's a slut, depressed swears she has an anxiety disorder and posts a cry for help on her facebook page. I told her to see a doctor first then try talk therapy and if that doesn't work then medication. Explained why some of her bahaviors were coping mechanisms of the self destructive nation...she deletes and ignores my advice... HELLO your FRIENDS can't help you and I'm a fucking Psychology student that's sort of my thing.

Case 3- My "Friend" Tim... I don't have room to tell you about him...he's gay he's a furry, he's angry and depressed all the time and his live has no direction.....

UGH I could just punch a hole in wall right now.

At least Tim's Mom listens to me.

 

Step 1 to being treated as an adult: grow up.

 

Just as subbie said, I've got 5 years+ experience on some of the guys twice my age at work. They still refuse to listen to a word I say despite months of working with me. It's nothing new to me, after a while you just get used to it and cease to give a shit about your co-workers. Just do what you know is best and ignore everyone else.

Calpis and APE nailed it. You're throwing your toys out of the pram because someone didn't ask for your help with their computer?

 

If people ever decided they didn't want my help, I'd just shrug and say fine by me. It's not like I'm getting paid for my advice, and when something goes just as badly as I think it will, it's just pure entertainment for me.

Except when it happens at work. Then you actually have to give a damn because otherwise you'll be swimming in the crap other people create for you (>_<)!

 

Be happy they didn't have you help because next thing you know 4 family members will have you updating the bios on their old pos pc via floppy just so you can upgrade it past win98.

Also put yourself in their shoes... someday you'll be old/older and some "know it all" kid will be trying to give you advice which you'll likely ignore due to their age and your perception of their ignorance on the matter.

Get over it and be happy that you didn't have to waste your time with it.
