According to his profile, 15. On topic: Once they realize you are good with this stuff they won't give you a break.
And that's the other side of the coin, ALWAYS being asked to help fix things once people DO know you know your shit! This happens every day in my work, seeing as I'm one of the few who took time to properly learn the systems we use. Now, if people need things done right, they'll come to me. Problem with this is, is that I work in a selling environment, meaning I have less time to hit my daily targets as I'm too busy being caught up fixing other peoples problems! :banghead:
When it's anything about computers, and you don't wanna do it, just ask to see their Windows license first. For me, so far this has worked every single time.
Wait until you're 25 and your boss patronizes you because of your seemingly lack of work experience and what he believes is a "university-like" attitude.... This will happen to you in many occasions. Just learn to deal with it, and take some comfort in the fact that you will one day be older than someone else, and you will be able to patronize them for a while....;-) That's what I do anyway... lol, although I don't do it in a MEAN way, I just do it for the lols
What? I thought he was almost 20 or something. Then of course he's being patronised: you get that shit until you're out of the house... Start charging them by the hour: thats what I did, worked, now they don't do stupid shit anymore and really pay attention to my advice, since they're not getting it for free and therefore value it a lot more. Else: Get one of those "I wont fix your PC" shirts, if that works...
Are you fucking kidding me? I offered to fix her computer for free and she went and got some ripoff dickwads to fix it for £70. Also yeah im 15.
because my age, and what I do. Some people refuse to believe what I say, or when I say I remember laserdiscs and beta and think I just read about them online. And alot of people think my NES collection is me tying in on a fad or retro gaming and not for actual nostaglia...
In later years when you've got no spare time to fix your own PC you will look back and laugh at this. I don't mean that in a nasty way, it's just how life goes. Take the time you would've spent fixing that computer and plays some games.
It's not always better to have them come to you for it, because then you get ALL the computer related tasks. A few days ago I had the entire Rossetta stone spanish edition audio companion given to me, with a request to 'burn these'. :banghead: Once you've proven your self, you'll thank me for this:
I have been asked with every menial task by my neighbors involving electronics. from setting up home theater systems, to installing anti virus...simply because well, they know I know how.
Ha, the OP reminds me of myself a couple years ago. I understand the frustration as I can't forget it myself. I remember being belittled and downplayed for no reason aside from my age despite my actual skills and capabilities at the time. I suppose most people become angry when belittled over the course of their childhood, but most seem to forget that anger and belittle just as they were belittled (for justice's sake, I suppose). The next time it happens, don't take it too seriously, just reply with some witty sarcasm. After all, it's sort of like being poked with a needle. It can only happen so many times before a callus forms.
