    Hi,

I am a bit out of the loop these days when it comes to consumer electronics, but I am currently looking for something that I can record an RGB Scart signal onto. I assumed that a DVD recorder would be the best shot, but I would also like to find something that will playback .mkv files that I have on my computer, so I can watch them on my big screen.

Does a device exist that does both? Do the modern digiboxes with harddrives in 'em have the ability to record from scart? Do they playback from USB drives?

    Any help = appreciated.

I haven't seen to many with an SCART port. But i do recommend the
HD PVR 2. Its open to RGB and HDMI, i'm sure there's PCI express cards with SCART ports in them. Could sync up the video and audio files.

The best way to do it is through your PC. Either of Micomsoft's devices, the 512n1 for desktops and the XCapture 1 for USB, do the best job, along with their clones. You will get Composite, Svideo, Component, RGB, VGA, and DVI/HDMI, from 240p to 1080p. RGB youll need a sync stripper (which should allow you to input scart and output over DE-15), but it is basically the only thing out there that will do everything properly.

Otherwise, youre looking at having to get a scaler to go from SCART to HDMI.

OK, well it looks like the best way is likely to use a media centre PC with a capture card - although I was able to find this blu ray recorder that would do everything with the added bonus of playing blurays, but it's also very expensive.
