Well I've had no success with any game other than Katamari, I tried burning Devil May Cry 10 different ways including using an HP LightScribe drive, which I've heard have low error rates - nothing is even recognized in ESR.
Maybe it's my media - I'm using Verbatim AZO DVD-R, AVS in IMGburn, or PS2/best speed in Alcohol, nothing but coasters :(.

Been playing games over ETH using OPL, but it's slow and picky, so I've decided to make my life easy and order a Modbo 4.0 from Zer0-2K11, well see what it's prepared to read once that's installed.

Congratulations! The PS2 has an amazing library of games, even after all of this time, I still find new games that I want (mostly via Youtube videos).

You should think about getting a hard drive for the PS2 though, but you might have to buy a fat PS2 for that (they are cheap enough). Loading your games via FreeMcBoot + Open PS2 Loader really does transform the PS2.

Are you the one who wrote FreeMcBoot? Thanks very much, it's a fantastic program! And totally reliable, it's never caused me any problems at all.

BTW, I am using version 1.8 (plus fat PAL PS2, and 250(ish) GB hard drive), what would I gain by installing the latest version of FreeMcBoot, please? I know that v1.94 let's you boot from the hard drive (which is very impressive!), but I'm happy booting from the memory card, so I've stuck with v1.8 so far, but what other advantages does 1.94 offer over 1.8?

Also, what's the largest capacity hard drive that a PS2 + FreeMcBoot + Open PS2 Loader can access?

You are patching the ISO images first, right?

I was having this same problem with ESR a whole ago, haha I was silly and didn't patch the games.. You just assume that there is no patching required..

Yup, using ESR Patcher Pro. A couple of the DMC burns made it to the memory card screen, but no further - weak laser?

Which DVDs do you use? Make a Disc quality test in Nero CD DVD Speed

It worked really well for me, for my NTSC-J PS2, which other methods failed.

FMCB was originally developed and written from ground-up by Jimmikaelkael and Neme. I had some ideas and spoke to Jimmi about them, and he granted me access to it source code. FMCB the v1.9 series was planned and managed by me, while every older version was done by Jimmikaelkael and Neme.

It's not FMCB v1.94 that supports the HDD, but FHDB v1.94.

As for the enhancements over all preceding versions of FMCB, quoted from the release thread post on PSX-scene:
    Up to 2TB.

Are your Verbatim DVD-R discs manufactured by either Taiyo Yuden or Mitsubishi? Insert one of the into your CD/DVD drive, start IMGBURN and select any of its modes. Look at the manufacturer code that is displayed on the right. If it's Taiyo Yuden, then it should begin with TYG. For Mitsubishi, it will begin with MCC.

Have you tried updating your writer's firmware, if it can be updated? Or even using another writer/PC to burn the disc?

It's possible that your console has a failing laser. It's the worst slimline PlayStation 2 model ever, with a MECHACON that can actually crash on its own (without modding).

    Thanks for answering, sp193.

    A 2TB drive in a PS2 sounds fantastic!

Tried with 3 burners - iMac Superdrive (Matshita UJ-85J), my Toshiba Satellite DL-DVD drive (don't know manufacturer, Samsung maybe), and the HP DVD1040i LightScribe drive in my tower.

DVD Manufacturer ID from IMGburn is MCC (Mitsubishi Chem?) rated up to 16X.

Haven't recently updated FW on any of the drives, but Dreamcast, Saturn, PS1, GCN and XBOX all burn fine using the Matshita Superdrive and IMGburn.

I wasn't aware the laser in the 70001 was particularly feeble. Original games play just fine, movies in DMC (yes I bought it, I can spare $5 for such a game) are smooth. Everything loads fast.

How fast will this laser die with ModBo installed?

Last question: If I want to replace the laser, can someone point me at the best replacement unit to but for this model slim?
