I know we've all got our opinions on this mine being Ocarina of Time. But I want to know why Gamefaqs chose to do their contest so retardedly. I know the best game ever is going to have to send genre's against each other which under normal circumstances should just not happen... Even so why is it that instead of having all the genre's in their own section facing off against each other they've decided to send at this moment FF8 FF9 Starcraft Ocarina of Time 3 RPGs 1 RTS OoTs already taking 75% of the vote Yesterday Sonic 2 lost to Metal Gear Solid:noooo: I know through my cunning that this race is going to be between an FF or Legend of Zelda title. So why wouldn't you at least let sonic be the last standing platformer? I bet something like Alex Kidd or Bonk's Adventure is going to finish further because Kojima fanboys flocked to that poll.
As soon as you said gamefaqs, the thread died. Obviously it's going to suck if it has anything to do with gamefaqs.
No such thing exists. I can recall countless times thinking to myself "This is the best(music/game/thing) ever", only to think the same thing some other time when playing/listening/doing something else at a later time. It all just comes down to what you're doing at the moment. If you're admiring listening to piano music, you're not going to feel like guitar music can compare as that's so far out there from something that's calm, and vice versa. I hope that made sense And it's pretty lame to care if others choose something in a pole that you don't like. Who the hell cares what people at gamefaqs choose? You're not loosing your identity cuz you're getting singled out or something :/
You have to subclass it, not only by genre, but also by other criteria: port, packaging, music, and shit like that. Becomes much easier. I wish I had a clock that told me all the time I've logged into all my games (not just the recent ones and ones in MAME).
It's not like a Gamefaqs poll has any validity...well, in anything really. The place is nothing but little anime kids who are gonna vote for FF7 or MGS because everyone else does.
Just close this thread already. They should just shut Gamefaqs down and replace it with one page with a picture of Link holding his massive cock on it. Ocarina of Time wins every top 10 top 100 and best game ever poll out there. I am quite bitter about this. I do not understand the hype surrounding the unpolished and frustrating turd that is OOT. Each to their own of course. Who cares what is collectively the best? We aren't Borg. ANGER. RANT. It's been a bad week. Thanks for letting me vent.
NP. I enjoyed it ;-) I am also apt to agree. Rating the quality of items based primarily on its influence and popularity is simply incorrect. However, these "best [insert topic]" lists are really only about influence and popularity. The way that they use the word 'best' is not about ascertaining an objective quality of objects, thus we get these types of results. This is one reason why I love reading those articles which evaluate how well certain games have withstood the test of time. They usually just look at quality of game design and the overall gaming experience (i.e. fun). On the downside, often times the reviewers review games from which they already have an experience in, so there can often be great bias.
Twimfy you were stuck in an elf costume for countless hours for the amusement of koreans. We can overlook any venting you have. What do you mean unpolished? It hasn't aged as well as i'd hoped, but... Alright I guess it's just sentimental value. Apologies for mentioning gamefaqs. I thought it was just the forums you have to avoid like aids
Twimfy, I have now lost all respect I had for you. I can let the elf costume pass, but you shall not insult my favourite game. But after all you've been through, all is forgiven .
Ok I have to ask. Which segments of OOT are unpolished? For its time it was pretty impressive, though the locked camera inside the temple of time never looked that great. As for frustrating, besides the water temple and the temple where you walk on air (shadow temple?) I remember this as a pretty average game difficulty wise. At least for the zelda series.
with regard to OoT I will be frank. With all the respect I have for your view Twimfy, the first time I actually felt immersed in a game so much was with OoT. It wasn't just the size, it was how the areas led to each other and despite being an empty field (hyrule) it felt like a place and not a hub - a feeling I got with Majora and Twilight Princess (which I can't seem to get into, it feels like a series of minigames and I hate the wolven parts). Ocarina of Time was a game that gave flesh to what epic games should play like. It had good level design, memorable tunes, a realistic color pallette, immersive audio, a fair share of secrets, side-quests, good artistic direction and solid coherence - you never felt obliged to do something, you just figured out you had to if you wanted to move on - something not present in Twilight Princess, where I feel led and forced to complete tasks in a strict order within the confines of tall vertical walls. Some people got the OoT effect when they first played GTA3, it's the same sort of feeling I guess, but you have to be into this electronic-freedom thing to qualify for discussion. Tetris might be the best game ever for all some people know, or Donkey Kong Country, or Sonic CD. I m a huge mario 64 fan and Ocarina just gave some adult/epic perspective to the SM64 formula, giving me more reasons to hold it in such high regard.
I'm pretty sure people just vote FF or Zelda etc even if they've never played it. It's not even worth caring. Me and friends used to have fun checking these out every so often but I stopped caring when Battletoads lost to motherfucking FINAL FANTASY 1.
