Retail: White MKII Saturn 3DO Fz-10 (it was more streamlined than the VCR looking Fz-1) Wondermega (on a side note: DC+Wondermega case+DVD=BEST CONSOLE EVER) N64 (really nice design, not as boxed as the MKI Saturn nor as 80s like the PSX) Genesis+SegaCD MKI combo (the best of late80s/early90s design, really impressive at the time) Gamecube (a small, cube-like console with a handle to carry around, what can go wrong?) Prototypes: 3DO M2 (is like a classier PSX) Neptune (best design ever for a cartridge console, too bad they never made it) Ultra64 (it was a little better than the N64 on the color dept. with a darker case and a cooler controller) The steel X360 (I know, it was impossible that thing would've gone into mass production for many reasons, but that doesnt means it wasnt great)
Oh ok, yeah! I'm still stuck with the emulation 'PSX' term in my head (is that where the Playstation started being referred to as the PSX?) Anyway: Retail: Microsoft XBOX (she was a big one, but I'd prolly still hit it) Nintendo 64 Nintendo DS Lite Nintendo SFC/SNES Junior Sega CD-X Sega Dreamcast Sony PS2 Slim Dev: RareWare SNES Graphics Box Sega Dreamcast HKT-01 Dev.Box Sega CD/MegaDrive Combo Dev.Box Sony PS2 TOOL Sony PS3 TOOL
No,from the beginning the machine was called Play Station X it was later changed to PlayStation but kept the abbreviation and was called PSX in the media at least until the PS2 came along (at least all this is true for Sweden )
Hmm, so many consoles designs I like. But I guess this is my top 5: 1. White Saturn (round buttons) 2. Victor Wondermega 3. PsOne (so small and sexy!) 4. Megadrive II 5. V-Saturn RG-JX2 (my main workhorse ;-))
In fact as far as I know the SNES CD project was called just "Playstation", but when Sony broke its partnership with Nintendo and started making its own console the project used the codename "PlayStation eXperimental". Anyway, for the moment the official name "Playstation" was announced, PSX was widely adapted by the media and the people. And by the way, my choices are: Retail: Wondermega PC-FX Gamecube Sega Dreamcast Dev: PSP Dev-kit Katana Dev-boxes PS2 TOOL
After reading all posts I have to change my personal top3 and add: -White Saturn and kick the 360 out ;-) But maybe nostalgia plays more a factor then common sense as the new consoles actually look better then all before (more streamlined and shiny usually) but its a matter of good taste and memories of good times and not trend/fashion so I would still choose a classic console over a new one!
Retail: -Panasonic Q (really, I almost bought a gamecube because of this... almost) -PCFX (not so much best looking as interesting looking I think) Prototypes: JagDuo (futuristic, almost UFO style design, love it) Neptune (agreed with above, one of the best looking combo cart systems I've seen)
Retail N64 Super Famicom Dreamcast DS Lite Sega Saturn Sega Genesis Dev Xbox 1 Dev Kit 360 Dev Kit PS2 Tool (PA) DC Dev Kit PSP Dev Kit
The original white PC Engine/CD-Rom Duo (more specifically the CD-Rom addon on itself). The Super CD-Rom² always reminded me of a spiffy looking space helmet; sort of like the ones worn in the original Alien movie. The other runners up in no particular order would be: Sega CD-X PC-FX Dreamcast Sharp X68000 XVI-HD (I know it's a home computer but I think it still fits in) Super Famicom
currious, why the love for the psp devkit? Maybe i'm jaded since I have to look at one all day (don't get me wrong, i'd love to have one at home). To me its just like the DS kit but with a bigger base station. It could be alot sexier.
Home system: N64/64DD combo N64 alone Dreamcast (Black) Xbox 360 (White) Redesign Super Famicom Twin Famicom AN-500B Portable: Nintendo DS Lite (White) GameBoy Color (Limon I think) GameBoy Advance (Black) Ugliest system ever: Pikachu N64
I like the green Xbox... Genesis 2...especially the logo. Purple GameCube... Sega Saturn. Black 360, maybe. I hate this trend of white colors!
I m back I guess. I liked the Dreamcast+Karaoke combo (reminds me of my love, the 64DD) White XBOX (Panzer dragoon or not) GameBoy Pocket (Silver original color, without power indication LED) GameBoy Advance (Glacier Blue)
Yeah, I was going to say the PSX actually. Designed by a non-console department to be integrated into the Sony Style range. It is a very nice bit of detailed design work. Until you get up nice and close it just looks like a white slab of console, but taking a better look it is a desirable unit. I would however say that the proposed LE editions (Automobile colours RED / BLUE & YELLOW) were utterly awful. Worked well on the PS2 retail, but not on the PSX.
