Looking to start recording myself with others playing various video games for YouTube. I know, never been done before right? Anybody have any recommendations for the hardware to use that's not too expensive? Really, any advice that's relevant is appreciated. I guess I should add that I'm looking to record multiple consoles. Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, PS1 games through a PS3, etc. A device that can handle all of them would be great. EDIT: Any thoughts on these? http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/g...DI8aMGKGEGhD9EOFXIQeYqoAm8QtXYv0M-hoCPyPw_wcB http://www.bestbuy.com/site/hauppau...Kk5OnEz3jpU6q3y08re1spEHWXNwrkRPicRoCnUXw_wcB
I use an Elgato capture card. The one I got records 720p at 60fps and 1080p at 30fps. Its an HDMI passthorugh so you connect your system to the capture card via component cables (you can get them for most older systems) and then it connects HDMI to your tv. Its also powered via usb and its also how you capture the game footage. You do have to use component or HDMI in though because if its 480i or less you wont see the game on the TV. This is fine for me though because I prefer to record my older systems in at least 480p so it looks good. I hope this helps. EDIT: The Elgato card I got also came with an adapter so I could record my PS3 gameplay.
not to bump the thread but which capture device is good for both newer gen consoles that use hdmi and older consoles like sega saturn and nes? also has to be under 100 bucks.
don't get one that has composite and other inputs, more than likely it's using a poor method to convert the composite to digital internally (component or whatever). The Avermedia Live gamer portable is good (i have one, bit annoying to permanently set up).. But I'd go with that Happauge that is listed in the first post, it does 1080p @60 and is on sale for $90..
I've ordered one of these to do my circuit bending onto - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/162003191659 - I'll try to remember to let y'all know how awful it is +1 on the AverMedia though, used one of those in the past and it was pretty good from memory. Edit: It's amazing! Demo here! Composite master race!
If you have to choose between either of those two, get the HD PVR. I know a few people that have gotten that and it's horrible. I had the first HD PVR and it worked quite well, as long as you didn't mind the rat's nest of Component cables going to and coming from the box like it was on life support Looking at that HD PVR 60 (had no idea that thing came out), it seems it's only HDMI in. For older consoles what you'll need is some way to convert your console's output to HDMI and then hook that into the capture card. For the PS3 as stated, you'll need a splitter of some kind which also bypasses HDCP. As you can see it all gets decently expensive when piling on devices and cables, but that's just the way it is. At least that's a killer deal on the capture card itself!
You'll be paying over $100 for all that. The only one I can think of which can do HDMI/Composite/Component is the original Elgato Game Capture HD, that thing is $150 and I wasn't super impressed with component.
Any idea if they make a component to HDMI? Also it figures that the PS3 would be the one that's a pain. I wanted to cover a lot of PS1 games through my PS3. Thanks for all the help and suggestions, everyone. I appreciate it.
If you are going to bother with crappy converters and all that, just spend the money on an XCapture clone -_-
i have this its amazing for the price http://www.aliexpress.com/item/2016..._1&btsid=859b61e9-9110-47b3-a9ed-3c45ddbe3e9d here is sample
