My 360 is going out. The video signal gets distorted after about a minute of play. I wanted to return it to Microsoft here in Japan but they said that the extended warranty is only offered on the red ring of death. I bought it at launch so my warranty has expired for the problem I'm having now. So, that brings me to my next question, which is how to create the red ring of death? Should I let that puppy fry in my entertainment center overnight? Give it a drop? Any tips? I'll remove the HDD first.
i was quizzing the same the other day... it was suggested to make it (force it) to overheat.... but ever since i have thought about doing it to mine (i have dvd drive issues) it has been working fine! lol
its proboably on par with selling faulty electronics and refusing customers to cash in on the warranty..
illegal to take advantage of your right? no. Dishonest maybe, but he has no obligation as a consumer to act honestly against a company that has put a faulty item in the market. if the damn thing worked properly in the first place there would be no need for such a sham.
I grappled with the moral issues for about 3 seconds, then realized what I'm doing. I'm taking a console that broke one way and making it look like it broke a different way. Considering the choice Microsoft has given me, which is to shell out cash for a second unit, I think I'll just ask them to repair mine and we'll call it even.
Considering that M$ have the morals of alley cats in the heat of the night when a little cute lady pussycat has mistakenly taken a wrong turn down a dead end alley-way carrying a piece of prime fish and smelling damned fine herself, I say....go for it!
Towel trick might work, but be careful because they do get freaking hot. Maybe turn it on and off a bunch. You could just do what broke mine, just keep using it like normal. =)
DO NOT duct tape the vents. The adhesive will melt and stick to everything. Not something you want since they'll know what you did.
There is also no gaurantee that just making it hot will give you permenant red ring of death anyway... Just tell them the fault is intermitent, that should get them to fix it.
Turn the machine upsidedown horizontal and let it warm up. Maybe you can get the GPU fault with a mix of heat and gravity.
wrap it in a towel, place on carpet, turn it on, and use a hair dryer to heat it up even more, place cardboard box over it to contain all the heat. I am not responsible if you burn down your apartment.
Last night the unit just booted up into a green/pink screen. That happens about 50% of the time. The other 50% of the time I play with the crappy graphics. For some reason it sometimes only affects the background. I can see my Halo character running and he's clear, but the ground and mountains around look low res. Other times the screen just flickers on and off. The only thing I did was leave it in the cabinet. Usually I open up the glass door and pull it out a little when I play so it doesn't overheat. I'm not going to cover it with a towel or tape or anything like that, but let's just say I'm done giving it advantages. The countdown begins.
