Leave it on for days at a time, and periodically try opening and closing the disc tray while simultaineously powering up and down the console.
Take the machine is feed raw 12v into the usb ports, video ports etc. Any more and you'll melt something. Aim to fry, not melt.
Well it sounds like your Gpu is going down hill.Well I bet you will get the ring of death pretty soon just because of the Gpu itself.
You could just tell them it RRODed, because by wrapping it in a towel it WILL cause it but then it'll go back to normal... Thus - what's the point, seeing you're already lying to them by artificially doing it in the first place? Just try and hunt down the error code off the net, and tell them that.
that's a good idea. something like this should help: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=484726
Well I'm on night 3 with no ring of death. I've just been playing with it in my entertainment center with the glass door closed, nothing special. The visuals are getting progressively worse but not by much. A buddy of mine works at a game shop here so he's going to give me a discount on a used core unit that he has. I already have the HDD. At this point I'm getting worried about messing that up if it does overheat. Looks like I can part out my current one and get most of my purchase price back. The power cords sell for about $70 here in Japan alone. Other non-working units sell for about $50.
