    'Lo there,

Someone asked at work the other day about something they'd heard about - a beta version of Rez that had Underworld tracks on it.

From what I remember, Mizuguchi wanted Underworld to do the soundtrack for the game but they either refused or couldn't do it, but he ended up stealing the 'Rez' name from them anyway. This guy said that he'd heard that a version with their tracks had been made, canned and subsequently been changed, and this old version's since been revealed and/or leaked.

I'm extremely dubious - the game seems far, far too based around the current tracks for them to have been changed last-minute, among other reasons. It doesn't sound likely at all to me, but since I'm on a bit of a RezHD-fueled frenzy at the moment I got interested enough to look around for any info. Thought here would be the place to ask.

So, uh, can anyone confirm or deny?

    (Also first post hello there)

Maybe K-Project had that tracks. I don't know much about that beta.

I played a Beta and it did have that track for the first level boss. I think it was only on there for one rev on the Dreamcast version.

there was a version with underworld tracks.
UGA displayed it at some parties in Tokyo. From what i remember Underworld and Sega did not reach an agreement because Underworld did not to be involved in a game that was about shooting.

    Or something like that...

Sega didn't want to pay $$$$ for the track.

I can't really imagine Underworld turning down an offer like that because of the shooting element in Rez - it was probably more to do with Sega not being prepared to shell out for licensing tracks when it could barely afford to function as a company without going seriously into debt around this time! Also, considering the synbiotic relationship between sound and graphics in the final version, either the programmers at UGA worked fast to complete Rez or the whole "Underworld" episode came earlier than first thought, even if I'd never heard any of this until just now. Then again, Rez seemed to be in development for ages (sorry - no pun intended), first starting off as a late-period Saturn game before evolving (now there's an in-joke for any Rez fans!) into K-Project and finally the package we know and love today, which is now being experienced by the HD generation. Actually, based on the later footage of Rez in its K-Project form that barely resembles the final game apart from in basic gameplay concept, perhaps UGA were just fast workers after all?

the beta seems to be dumped by someone now. appearently it has a lot of annoying ingame debug windows thought, but uses the other music.

I wonder if someone here knows who's the owner of the original disc and how did he get it... I like to know this kind of bits of history ;-)

By the way, SeiyaK0u, can I use your video and description in my DC webiste?

The Rez proto that's been released is fantastic, full debug menus (use the second controller), and a variety of differences. Very glad it's come out :)

With GDI version you mean that it can be burnt into a GD-ROM using the apropriate software and hardware and it would be like the real disc?
