Yes, if you had a GD-R and GD-R burner, you could burn it exactly as it was on the original source disc. GDI dumps are straight track dumps from the source GD-ROM. For most people they are good for emulators, as three of them support the images (nullDC, Makaron, and lxdream) and they are unmodified (no hacking, downsampling, etc.)

How the hell would you go about getting those things? I thought the point behind the GD was that it was a proprietary format not available to the public and hence theoretically piracy-proof? (Theory: sound. Practice: not as much. XD)

 

At the time, the Katana development box and GD-Writer were out of the average person's price range and they were only licensed to developers by Sega. Now you can find them at places like eBay. The discs are actually starting to become harder to find than the writer itself.
