BidPay.Com is shutting down!!

Discussion in 'The ASSEMblergames Marketplace' started by Benedict_Arnold, Dec 23, 2005.

  1. Effective December 31, 2005, BidPay.com, Inc. will be discontinuing operations. As a result, BidPay will no longer offer payment services to the online auction industry. We regret any inconvenience to our users and thank them for their loyal patronage. Customer service will remain available at bidpayservice@bidpay.com through the month of February.

Will this mean some sellers here may switch to paypal again? I'm actually glad this happened. Although I hate paypal fees (the buyer should pay the fee), I hope ebay.com goes paypal only soon like they did in other countries.

Why is Bidpay discontinuing operations? :/ I think this is not good, and is not going to please many sellers (here too). I agree Paypal is easy but Bidpay is easy too and more variety is better, you can use the credit card and the fees are not as exaggerated as with Western Union transfers. Now it seems Paypal will be a total monopoly at least on eBay.

paypal dont really have total monopoly.
for US citizens that use ebay maybe yes.

for the rest of ebay users.. there are www.greenzap.com, moneybookers, moneygram, HSBC direct transfer.e-goldcom etc etc

for most of european ebay users they use their local country money sending system than using paypal with higher fees

  8. Can't you do paypal? At the very least, open a bank account in your mom's or wife's name?

Euurg, paypal is horrid. I know people who have had their bank account locked due to paypal and lost £1000s.

  10. If their bank account was locked there probably was a reason (didn't ship out goods, item not as auction stated...etc.). If you link it to a bank account, you should keep that account pretty much empty.

It was locked as they recived £500+ from an un-authorized user.

I had a bad experience though it was partially my fault. I let my friend in Russia use my Paypal account to receive money but something happened to the packages he shipped and almost none of them got through. I then got hit with a ton of payment requests and eventually got all of them refunded. After that my account got unlocked. Though there was an issue with them not sending ebay.com the "his account is ok" afterwords. Apparently that happens a lot.

Sadly, this just isn't the way that Paypal/eBay work. If they receive a complaint stating that the seller never shipped the item, then they automatically side with the buyer. After a while, the seller's account will be frozen (which is illegal btw) and the funds will revert back to the buyer usually when there is proof that the item was received. A LOT of fraud is perpetrated this way through PP.

There are scams for everything, you just need to take your chances.

  19. BidPay screwed me out of $300 bucks about a year ago. They want me to contact a seller in Hong Kong about cancelling the sale from his end by him sending an email to BidPay that he acknowledges the cancellation of the transaction, but guess what? It's been more than a year! I think he would have sold the merchandise by now. It obviously went to a wrong address, but BidPay is being real hush-hush about it. I tried calling but the lady on the phone didn't know what I was talking about and when she transfered me, they hung up.

I've pretty much have given up trying to get it back...

Just a hair less expensive than Ebay, no?

And none of these places can freeze your bank account -- just your Paypal account. Unless I think I'm going to buy something, I generally keep between $100-$200 in the account at all times.
