Ah, so on my way to the most important appointment I have had in the last three years. No joking. The highway was designed by a moron, with the exit for a major road on the left hand side, something normally never ever done in the states. Naturally "grandma" likes to park it in the exit lane at 35mph, normally the high speed lane. I have five miles to go to the exit. So the right hand lanes, normally the slow ones, are the fast ones around that part of highway. So to pass, I have to gun it through three gears and pass the slower cars in the middle lane. Relatively slower mind you, as we're all doing 80mph. So I go to pass, gun the engine and at 90mph and all of the sudden the car bogs, then revs into the stratosphere and in my rear view window I see a giant cloud of smoke that used to be my expensive clutch. So I get to the appointment an hour late, but after kissing the doctors ass for 45 minutes, it's all o.k. So on the way home, I limp my car home in the left hand lane with the hazard lights on, getting passed by.. you guessed it... grandma. Needless to say, I now have a much much beefier clutch going in, new pro 5.0 shifter and a wicked exhaust. Of course now I must sell a kidney.
Wow....Thats impressive. In mother-like terms, perhaps you shouldn't have been going quite so fast and left more time for your appointment, eh? Side note: 2700th post. Well done, although I'd guess it doesn't really matter to you since you could give yourself some vast number if you fancied it. Edit: Instead of selling a kidney wouldn't a few hundred NR-readers be easier? We all know you have them, and you could have a beowulf cluster of PS2 Tests instead!
You could always comfort yourself with the thought that if gas keeps going up, you won't be able to drive your car . I sure as hell won't be able to, and I drive a Camry.
Stock trannys in those V8, esepecially the clutch, can't handle that sort of thing. My uncle used to own a Camaro z28, and the tranny was aluminum, when they first came out, and he kept on killing it because it was too weak.
MOTHERFUCK... 145 Kilometres per hour?? Heh, I normaly drive 60 Kph at my fastest, and I generally take the "grandma" lane. Yup, I'm "grandma" when I drive. And I drive the mexican equivalent to a Ford Tempo, so I'm not that far off in terms of machinery. Not that I don't know how to drive (driving lessons involved many horribly designed Guadalajara freeways at 130 kph) - but I really dislike going fast. But... a Clutch mishap at 145 kph...Dude, are you okay? Anything at that speed might involve serious neck/back stress. Then again, you might not have stopped suddenly, but I'd still check. You had a doctor's appointment. Is everything okay? Or is it that you're working for a doctor? (you're a radiologist, right?) So, how much are you going to be set back by the clutch damage?
well xerdo, you drive @ 60kph, but you ARE driving in mexico, i doubt assembler has the balls to drive in mexico xD.
Left exit, hmmm, that is weird in the states. However, I do know of one in Georgia. ~~~Off Topic~~~ I get my license in exactly a month from today! W00T!!!
try to drive on the wrong side of road for change... when I came to Australia took me a long time to get over the old habit... often I caught myself driving on the wrong side of the road at night when there's no cars to judge... I still don't know how my old man can so easily switch between LHD and RHD...
Fuck... come to Hawaii. Getting on the freeway is the biggest challenge... then dodging the shitty drivers is the next one. There's one entrance where you have to get on from the left lane. It is the wackiest shit I have ever seen.
An American car with a manual gearbox, the myth is dead??? ...We were always led to believe that you all had auto's in the states, summat to do with not being assed to keep changing gear/using left leg/using right arm/just want to bury accelerator to the floor scenario without thinking too much :smt023
What's with the KPH? Hehe, are we finally on the metric system. ;-) I think you need to take it easy with your ride senor. It is not recommended to do neutral drops on a 10+ yr old clutch. Glad to see you made plans to get your vehicle on the mend. :smt023 ^_^_^
Unless you're joking, someone told you a big lie. I'm 17 and can drive a manual transmission (not very well, but I haven't stalled the thing in awhile).
Just the shitty cars are auto. The myth is quite true, 90% of cars are automatic in the states. Go to europe, you'll find automatics at the car rental places for the americans, and estate cars for the old people.
I'm not sure where that automatic myth came from either - or even if 90% is a remotely accurate estimate, either. At least with the people I know, manual transmissions are FAR more popular than automatics. And for good reason, too - there's nothing like trying to climb a mountain pass when your transmission decides it will be fine to just sit in fifth gear the whole time. Dude, it's Hawaii. Nothing's worth doing if you can't do it ass-backwards, and with criminally broken English at that.
