Thanks for this mate! 2D Bomberman is much better than the pseudo-3D of the original N64 Bomberman.

BTW, what is the name of this game? The rom I downloaded, and it is the right one (since it patched OK, and runs fine in MuppenPlus v2.5 - I hate N64 emulators, but I'm at work so I can't test on a real N64! ), is called "Bomberman 64 - Arcade Edition (J)"*, and when you run the game the title page says:

    Bomberman 64 (c) 2001

But Bomberman 64 is also the title of the first Bomberman game on the N64 (released in 1997). I'd have thought that the newer game would have a different title.

    * The "(J)" is a "J" for JAP, inside brackets. The font on this forum makes it difficult to read the J inside the brackets.

Zoinkity, I know you've translated (the superb!) Sin and Punishment, Custom Robo, and now this. Are there other N64 games you've translated, please?

And if you're looking for another game to translate, please consider SimCity 64. I know someone else is doing this (https://github.com/PeterLemon/N64/tree/master/Translate/SimCity-64), but it's progessing slowly, and SimCity 64 is the one Japanses-only N64 game that I *really* want to play, and it's murder for an English only speaker. It's really disappointing that such an inventive take on the superb SimCity 2000 never made it outside of Japan, and it really deserves to be playable to the English speaking parts of the world.

Just like it says: "Bomberman 64".

The first one is called "Bomberman 64" only outside of Japan; its domestic name is "Baku Bomberman", so it's not a contradiction.

Only about half the story mode for Custom Robo is finished, and I'm probably going to revise a good chunk of that.
I have a couple other translation projects going (one which delayed Custom Robo), but everything is on hold for the moment.

But considering that both are called "Bomberman 64" outside of Japan, then it is both a strange and potentially confusing situation, surely? Just not in Japan.

Great, I look forward to seeing them - game translations are a great addition to the N64's library.

Compared to the Final Fantasy situation, Bomberman 64 is nothing hah. Happened with quite a few titles over the years though.

Well, my point of view is that the '01 one isn't really called anything outside of Japan because it was never released anywhere but there. But how about we agree on "Bomberman 64 Arcade Edition" like the ROM file is usually called, even though it's not what Hudson calls it, since that seems to be the general consensus with the non-Japanese-speaking crowd?

Good point, OK. But 'Bomberman - back to 2D' would have been a good name too, at least for those of us who think Bomberman is best in 2D!!! Mind you, 3D Bomberman is still a million times better than 3D Worms, I can't stand the Worms games that are in 3D.

And back in the early 90s, I doubt many people thought that 2D platform games would transfer well to 3D, then Super Mario 64 came along and amazed us all with how well it did transition.

One ROM index lists it as the artificially-named "arcade edition" and another as "2001". If you want something super-specific call it BOMBERMAN64-NHAJ. Game ID for that one is unique.
