Bono's private-equity firm Elevation Partners is rumored to be eyeing a bid for troubled video-game company Take-Two Interactive — developer of the popular "Grand Theft Auto" series. A potential deal could be worth more than $1 billion, including debt. Elevation is said to have teamed up with Pequot Capital, a hedge fund and venture capital investor that owns a large chunk of Take-Two's shares.

Am I the only one who fears that if Bono buys Take 2 then that's the end of GTA? I like Bono's music, but he doesn't seem to be the kind of guy who would be into carjacking and the like.

That was my exact thought when I first heard about this. But like Borman said, it's been rumored for a while and nothings happened yet...

Didn't that investment group of his buy another game publisher the year before last? Or was that all still take two? I don't remember now...

The last thing any investment company wants to do is to buy a billion dollar company then destroy it's best selling product. Regardless of who buys take two, GTA will still be around.

Maybe we will get lucky and U2 will be part of every new gta. Can you imagine driving away from an explosion and " Beautiful day" plays. But i agree i do not think peaceful Bono would want his company representing a violent brand.

Elevation Partners (Bono) were the ones that bought BioWare, and Pandemic. They were rumoured to buy EIDOS before SCi took them over, so I guess it's a natural combination.

Combine BioWare, Pandemic with a publisher (Take Two and therefore Rockstar, Visual Concept, and others.), and they got a potent trio to market their games.

I'm in the crowd of thinking that killing a cash cow could also be seen as violent and inhumane in the business world.

Bono would be a dumbfuck businessman to form an investment group only to spread his stupid morals on everything he buys. If anything, sell the franchise to sony or microsoft...someone that would love to make it exclusive.
