It seems a chinese company is making DS clones.
Yes, real DS clones with touch screens etc.

Has anyone come across one yet?

It's a complete clone of DS fat.

I've heard/read about them. Apparently they could have defective power supplies which could potentially be lethal.

This I've read about, but on closer inspection it was just imported official DS fats with PSUs that hadn't been compliance tested in the UK/US. I think that got internet-rumoured into "fake DS" somehow.

Would be interested to see a unit if I'm wrong, though.

Ds clones? good. I don't like nintendo's policy these years. So if they lose money, fine. When nintendo's first, you think sony was not so bad after all.

Ironically, one of the best things about Nintendo is the reliability of their hardware. I don't see how clones/pirates of modern hardware or games are a good thing, they're invariably shoddily made and make buying on ebay a nightmare. The technical angle interests me, but as a functional product there's no defence for them.

Are you really sure they're not just iQue DS units? Thoes are official and licensed.

Nice link 1080Peter. It will be interesting just to see who shoddy these fakes really are though.

I'd buy one, £40 is about all a DS is worth (to me).

"Nintendo confirmed it had not produced the potentially dangerous adaptors. "

The adaptors are the issue. The consoles are Nintendo licensed, I believe, but not intended for the western market.

""When you buy these goods, you're not funding our economy, you're actually funding criminals in these far off places and it could be linked to terrorism," she added. "

LOL... the same shit every year. HM customs isn't getting all the tax they are due so they scare people over a cheaper alternative. Supposedly these things don't even ship with the adaptor, you have to buy it seperately.

Yeah I noticed that yesterday, but they could have just stolen the artwork from that site and slapped it on their boxes (a-la GameKing)

I ve got an unlicensed power cable for my DS Phat and it's been running fine for the past 2.000 years, ever since the DS launched.

But check out the article. Nintendo didn't say they didn't make the system. Just the power adapter.

So basically these "Pirate" DS systems are in fact Chinese I.Que systems sold without the Power pack?

Pretty much. I think this is just another case of sloppy journalism and the internet rumour mill. As far as I can tell it's just Asian DS systems with dodgy third-party, non-compliance-tested PSUs.

Pretty much. Yet I think the issue (now thinking about it) is not over them not including power cables, it's the fact that the plug for chinese products are most likely not the same as UK products (even though both use 220v).

I'm not sure fully on sockets for UK products but all i've seen tend to be round plugs (or the more complicated big brick 3 plugs). vs the chinese plugs which more look like USA/JPN style plugs.

Just to be sure, you guys arn't talking about "Game Fighter" Chinese DS fakes that are just Game & Watch style LCD products with removable screens for changing games? :) I guess not given the flow of things, but that was my first thought :p
