Someone posted a link to the news article which contains a picture of the system's box. It pretty much looks like an iQue DS lite (which are officialy made DS units for the mainland chinese market).

If anyone sees any of these for sale in the UK, reply here, I quite fancy getting that red one, and I can get a decent charger for a couple of quid from Gamestation.

I took a look at the real DS lite and wasn't overly impressed, SORRY SONY took that market easily! Lol!

Why would anyone want a knock off?

Far from easily. The DS sold out, the PSP didn't. The prices weren't so close originally. And they are very different machines, not just from the hardware aspect but the type of game is generally very different.

In my opinion, the PSP is a load of rubbish. The actual game housing is VERY shoddy and often breaks. The discs are easily scratched due to the always-open hole. Loading off a disc on a handheld is slow and awkward. The joystick comes off and gets lost. The joystick doesn't feel nice. The joystick can break and need replacing. Same with the screen. The screen can get scratched more easily as it doesn't close on itself. And just in general, there are very few games I'd want to play on it.

The DS, on the other hand, is a fun and novel machine. And it has useful games like Brain Training.

    As for those auctions:

    Try here and here

I got FF Tactics for 2$ on clearance for PSP the other day, picked up my dust laden PSP off my shelf and the battery is dead from never playing it.

    Still haven't charged it.

I agree somewhat. I only use my PSP for homebrew/emulation. The DS, on the other hand has quite a few good commercial releases I have been playing - Ketsui DS, FFIV, FFIII, New Super Mario Bros. I have felt for a long while that the DS has better commercial releases, but the PSP owns for homebrew.

I'm really getting the feeling that you don't know shit about games. First all that nonsense about Fallout 3 being like Half Life, now this? My DS gets way more play than my PSP, and the DS has outsold it 2:1. At least get your facts straight.

The PSP has sold so poorly compared to the DS. Look up some sales charts if you don't believe us.

Help me understand here. Are these iQue DS systems exactly the same as ones from other regions or do they have certain features stripped out to save on cost?

I don't fully know to tell you the truth. I will better know next year when I visit china and can get over to the ique store. I know the kernal is localized and I think there are a few changes to the bios but I don't think it effects game compatibility.

Cheers Kev, was hoping for a UK seller as it's for my little boy for his birthday but it's in January, so delivery of a week or two isn't a problem.

iQue DS are the same hardware as the DS Lite. They are manufactured in China. The menus are localized.

The main difference is Chinese character support in teh firmware. They play other region games but Chinese games don't work in other regions.

Someday I think these will be like korean or hong kong famicom games/systems. Nobody will really know much about them and people will pay more than they should.
