Bootleg PS1 Collection spotted at Goodwill

Was at goodwill and found this whole collection of bootleg PS1 games
Of the ones that stood out, it was Crash Bandicoot Collection 1,2,3
There's a good chance they'll still be there if you think there's one I should get a hold of

I didn't expect those prices for bootleg games.
I don't think they would be worth this much.

 

They probably thought that they were genuine PS1 titles

 

Sucks for the price but I have seen my goodwill sale bootleg movies/music and I mean bad ones with the title written with marker on them.

 

Sounds like someone needs to report them

 

The thought of someone seeing ~20 year old bootlegs at a Goodwill and getting worked up to the point of reporting the store is a ridiculous one, really. I don't think anyone working at a given location knows how to discern this stuff nor do they get paid enough to care. I do sometimes wonder why they let someone's homemade CD-Rs end up for sale, but really this crap is just stuff they were given that will likely never sell and meet the dumpster anyway.

 

Most of the goodwills in my area only sort things as they spot them. I often go to my local one just to remove the ones from the movies section to the front where they keep the games.
The cashier, the manager was pretty clear the price couldnt be changed unfortunately despite knowing full well they were bootlegs because they came in that day. If i went back say today or tomorrow they might drop em to a buck a pop.
There's been so many bootlegs I've seen come in through these places. There's minimal screening.
I do see a lot of "For Your Consideration" oscar/emmy stuff show up for one reason or another. They're weirdly common in my area.

Here's some images of the crash bandicoot contents for fun. I havent tried playing it but since the game was intended to be run on the outer rings, and its been moved to inner ones I'm not sure how bad it will affect performance.

 

Interesting. So, do they actually work on a PlayStation or are they just completely non-functioning? I have a bootleg gba collection. I never thought there was a very large amount of interesting bootlegs for consoles like this

 

You need a modchip or use the disc swap method for the ps1, ps2 will need a disc swap method or some other tool to load it
Ps3 wont boot it, modding it might work but dev systems will just run it.

 

Ok so it’s one of those kind of discs. I do have a modded ps1. Did you pick these up by any chance? Or are they just straight up pirated games? If that’s the case then meh

 

Theyre "professionally" mastered pirate ps1 discs. More effort than just burning a disc and scribbling the name on it with marker

 

That’s weird. I guess that makes it more appealing to sell.

 

I used to have loads of these that were given to me by a friend. Some guy in China used to mail them to him for next to nothing.

 

Just a quick story related to the topic, hope y’all don’t mind.

I had a lot of these when I was a kid. So my modded ps1 came from my uncle. (I still have it) When I was a kid, I didn’t know it was modded and I didn’t know that a handful of the games he gave us were pirated games. So when I brought these games he burned onto discs to my friends’ houses, we were always disappointed and confused why they wouldn’t work.

 

I'd love to play that crash collection... it could be interesting....

What (if anything) did they rip from the games to get it all on a single CD?

The crash games are not that big for what it's worth. It doesnt surprise me that they're all on one disc.
