I remember as a kid always looking at the box art and noticing two things wrong with it. 1. There isn't an enemy in the game that resembles the guy standing up to Hagar. 2. The person doing the moves in the background looks like guy, yet guy isn't even in there. Was this capcom's way of fooling people into buying this version?
Its also based on a HORRIBLE Nick Cartoon that was cancelled after like 13 episodes. It was WAAAAYYY gay, and I'm not just saying that. They were constantly slapping their asses together to "Unleash" their powers. Yeah.
It is funny, but it made me mad because I was a huge Atari fanboy back then and weird box art didn't help sales very much. That image was a huge joke in VG magazines at the time, much like NES Mega Man a few years later.
American artists? Looks like Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama to me, check out his "Sexy Robot" illustrations (i own the book ¬_¬), kinda weird choice for a mega man illustration though... More Sorayama - http://images.google.co.uk/images?q=hajime+sorayama Transbot, that image... must be the worst cover of all time. Has to be. It's like some uber cheap Transformers imitiation figure that had only like 2 points of articulation... still haunts me to this day. Is it just me, or are most of the sickening covers from the SMS?
You can't hotlink from www.vgmuseum.com, Tatsujin. So here's something better. The real US cover VS the pretty cool Japanese cover. US cover - Ooh my eyes Japanese Cover - Ooh la la Yakumo
naked chicks with planes kick ass. The US release seems to be geared towards children who like "macho guys"... that's just wrong!
My biggest problem w/ US box art (up to the Dreamcast) is they fucking insist on plastering the logo on there, as well as some other official bullshit (The Sega Genesis Seal of Quality... the requirements of which are "it's a game that boots"). :/
That guy in the hood reminds me of Mighty Max a little bit. Its a bad guy from the Mighty Max toy and comic line, btw.
One of these things, does not belong... one of these things, is not like the other. http://www.mobygames.com/game/ps2/ico/cover-art
Let me guess, the US version? Actually that's not too bad for a US box, they could have made it a lot worse. Yakumo
Too cliche'ed. It was good when that style was first done in the 70's, but the close-up of the hero and half of the heroines face in the back. Not to mention it doesn't look like the original artists, nor does it capture the essence of the game. I found a really, really ugly Sega Saturn add though (japanese one) I will have to post. Not box art, but I think we can make an exception.
