Bill Hicks would sure have had some fun with this...

"hey bill, some kid was taunting a croc with a slingshot, guess what, he got eaten..."

wonder what he'd have to say about it...

Whenever a wild animal eats a human being, the animal is hunted down and killed. The idea is that it might aquire a taste for human meat and not be so afraid of attacking another person in the future. Every year out here we get two or three mountain lion attacks, usually they'll start by raiding neighborhood backyards, eating dogs and cats, etc. Eventually at least once a year someone gets mauled or killed by one (this happens mainly becasue of development encroaching onto thier natural habitat.) The theory is that the animals "learn" to avoid people if you kill enough of them.

Not that I really agree with this myself.

at the end of the day, humans are the only ones who try and manipulate nature in such a way... the whole training them thing, it's artificially inducing darwin's theories on evolution.

the croc/lions anything will eat meat because they're hungry... not for the sake of killing, unlike those human snipers - did they eat the crocodile after? no, they just get their meat shrink wrapped from the supermarket believing that sirloin steak grew in a field where no other animals were harmed.

the kid removed himself from the safety net put in place by society and in essence, submitted himself back into nature's foodchain. it is sad that a human being lost their life, but the whole killing the croc thing? for doing that which is natural to the animal, for its survival?

for humans everything is about superiority over other creatures on this planet, making things personal - revenge. I guarantee the croc didn't take it that personally... kid comes into its home, pisses him off, what's it supposed to do? chuckle?

Thing is if the animals were in the wild where they belong, and if those wild places are clearly defined, where people are not allowed to just walk around in without permission, then stuff like this wouldn't happen. Not that I'm against zoos as I realise most people would never get to see these animals without them. But the way I see it modern human beings who do not know how to survive in the wilderness have no business being there, and if you're going to put yourself in an environment where you're in danger of being attacked then really, who's fault is it?

Conversely, if you build a row of track houses in an area where you know bears or mountain lions hunt, then you should expect them to venture into your yard and eat your kitty cats now and then. In any smartly planned city stuff like this doesn't happen. Large areas of wilderness need to be seperated from habitable areas and cordoned off with tall barbed wire fences that the animals cannot get over (mountian lions can scale a 10 foot fence no problem,) and people should not be allowed to just go hiking in these areas whenever they feel like it.

But anyway... who am I to prevent Darwin from weeding out the stupid?
