Hey there, I recently saw this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfkDZurZllg I would like to replace the rom chip of a regular sega genesis game with this one as a prank for a friend. I have purchased Super Street Fighter 2 off of ebay and I was wondering two things: 1. Is there any information on the exact model\type of chip I need to buy to replace this cart with? In the above youtube video, it says the rom file needs a 40 megabit chip which seems to be only available on the Super Street Fighter 2 game. I presume the existing chip in the cart is a ROM and thus cannot be erased right? 2. I have read that you can do a hot-swap with an old PC's bios. I may or may not be able to do that depending if my old PC supports the pin count of this chip. What is the cheapest alternative way to do this. Is there any way I can turn an arduino or MSP430 into a chip writer? Is there something I can buy reasonably cheap on ebay to do this? Thanks for your help!
This thread has info you need to do what you want: http://www.assemblergames.com/forum...acing-ROM-s-in-MegaDrive-games&highlight=jdec
Thanks for the reply. Does anyone know what chip part number is for 40megabit? I tried asking in the other thread but no reply.
There isnt a 40mb chip thats compatible, you would need to use 2 chips and a address decoder. I am not sure if there are enough address lines on the cart slot or if street fighter did some fancy mapping. I have not really dealt with the mega drive (genesis) much.
Here's the board. http://gendev.spritesmind.net/mirro...isc2/games/genesis_super_street_fighter_2.htm Seems you'll need 3 TSOP-44 chips (there's already a controller). I didn't found anything about the 3 roms chips, so it will be hard to find some replacement. The chips are similiar to those I know from snes reprocart (like Star Ocean or Super Mario RPG) so it should be possible to replace them (but you have to be careful about the voltage) Back then, 32Mb chip had to be expensive, I figure it will be something like 16+16+8.
