Luckily me, I already have it from HK PSN. All that this has to do with Digital Distribution is it's removal from sales is far faster. If it was at retail they still would be asking retailers to ship back their stock. Only benifit physical retail has is used sales. There was a time where you couldn't find new copies of Tetris DS due to licensing. =| If you have already bought the game off PSN/XBLA, you'll still have access to redownload the game at any time for as long as the service runs (in both cases, quite some time).
The big question here is, how long will it be available for download for the persons that actually bought it on time!
No, this is how retarded licensing deals can be. If it was a retail title, you wouldn't even be able to buy it anymore.
As long as there is PS3 PSN or 360 XBL service. Sony won't take it away (it's happen in the past). The only time they do is when a game is seriously seriously broken and in that case they issue a full refund.
Actually, what i meant is physical copies wouldn't disappear from the market. Even if retailers ship back their stock, there would be lots of people who bought it. My biggest concern is that someday great games will disappear because a) we won't own them and b) we can make backups of them. Digital distribution means you own the right to play the game, while they support the service. Physical distribution means you own the game and can play it as much as you want, anytime you want. With physical distribution, you paid for a game that's yours. With digital distribution you paid for something you have to hope will keep working on the near future.
Why should that matter. If you bought it before hand there is no problem. Unless you're suggesting otherwise, which in that case I have a hammer for that.
Until the hardware breaks appart, mostly the same situation than digital distribution, except that in digital form you can always crack it and make as many copies as you want. Try doing that with carts, unless you have some fancy equipment around.
Out of curiosity, how is the XBLA game different from the previous original Xbox releases, apart from the graphical enhancements and online play? I'm in the camp that prefers physical media, so if it's essentially the same game with the same tracks and the same car options then I'm happy to have my disks, backward compatibility or not.
What about if xbox 360 hard drive fails and you need to redownload them say like a few years later and why dont sega just renew the licenice with Sega's licensing deal with the Italian car manufacturer.
i have it on xbox 360 but i try to go on live no one is ever on there sad i wanted to play people are too busy on halo reach.
As I recall, Ferrari only ever licenses the car likenesses to one game company at a time. When the Sega Ferrari F-355 arcade port hit the PS2, Acclaim had to publish it on their behalf because they were the ones who held the license. So until the Sony game license expires, Sega's not going to be able to make a new deal.
Physical Distribution Buy it and make a backup (if you want to). Lots of people buy the game on disc as well 10 years later: Hardware failure? Fix it or get another one (used) Disc failure? Use backup or buy another copy (used) Online Distribution "Buy it" and download to the console / pc 10 years later: Hardware Failure? HD Failure? Service still works: Download it again Service "closed":  Look for warez copy somewhere? And i won't even start on selling / trading.
