What are my chances of finding a US GameCube in a shop in Tokyo? And if so what price would I be looking at?

    TIA!

There are a few shops in Akihabara like Game Hollywood that import games and accessories. I had a quick look at some websites and they don't seem to stock any consoles.

If I were you I'd get a used Japanese one for around $20 and have it modded for US games (I don't know any shops that provide that service though). Or use a freeloader. Or alternatively place an ad in Metropolis magazine or on some Gaijin forum.

I would trade you mine, although I don't know if the mod switch works. Bought it, and never tried the thing out.

it's just one single switch on the R6, why bother? Every NTSC cube is the same, down to the BIOS, R6 circuit decides if its US or JPN

I have to ask - Why?

I have racked my brains and cannot conceive of a possible reason why you would want one.

Its easy to tell if the switch worked, hit it and the menu is in japanese, hit it again and its in english. Quite easy :)

Simple reason. Nearly all of my GC games are US and Freeloader is a pain if I play on it a lot so if it was cheap and easy to get hold of a US GC in Tokyo I would do. If not, I'll just stick to Freeloader or mod it. I have a gamebit screwdriver somewhere. Thanks for the answers.

I have a Jap/American GC with a mod switch. Bought it a while ago and have never got round to getting NTSC games. I'll sell it if you want to make an offer.

I live in Sheffield too if you want to collect.

It is so easy to mod a Japanese version of the gamecube once you open it, you only need a smidgen of solder experience, if any to do the switch, buy a simple on off switch and then attach the wiring to two points on the board, that simple.

Just mod a gamecube, it's seriously 2 wires (30 gauge, just use an IDE cable)
