Hello. I was about to install a modchip on a PlayStation 1 console that I bought off Ebay then lifted up the motherboard and then saw this Modchip. Out of interest have any of you bought used consoles then discovered that they were modded. I was kinda of angry I bought a modchip after this as it was a waste of money. Heard that these PS1 consoles were modded alot and some stores sold them preinstalled modchips as standard or something.

There were lots of people modding the PS1 back in the day, so it's not at all surprising to find one with a modchip in it.

In Hong Kong, pretty much 100% of the consoles were modded, so the big surprise is if you find one that isnt!

It might not be a lost cause. The current install looks ropey and the firmware might be outdated. It might be worth taking it out and installing your own mod chip.

Yup a lot of PS1 are modded, untill people started using one of those plug in carts

Once got a Xbox from a charity shop, the screws had been tampered with so took the risk was only a fiver (£5)
Took it home, booted it up and blue logo came on with "Evo X"
A 60gb HDD inside as well

I think I'm going to install my own modchip. The current install looks crap. Here are more photos of the bodged install.

I bought a new console and found that it was modded. The HK SNES is an officially modded NTSC modded UK version. Complete with a 50/60 switch placed in a hold drilled into the case that looks like it was done by a teenage youtuber.
I've bought a grand total of 4 unmodded PS1s, and Saturns in HK. Out of I guess a few dozen or so. A lot of the 3DOs I've bought in HK were Japan versions modded for 200V.

i bought a broken PS1 that won't play retail or backups then i found the below , 1 floating wire and incorrectly wired to the board as spotted by members here. I resoldered the wires according to a pic from a member and it boots both backups and retail.

There is also the mysterious ASI SNES super set which may have been sold modded as well. The pack-in ASI Super Mario World that comes with it doesn't seem to have its lockout chip. No one seems to know too much more about it.

Closest thing to a bonus in a console I've gotten is I always check those expansion doors on Gamecubes, often I'll find GBA games, memory cards and $5 bill one time.
