This is seriously a damn joke. Like I have no idea how they think this is revolutionary or next gen. It just blows my mind.

"WE GOT DISPLACEMENT MAPS, BUT VIDEO GAMES HAD THAT FOR A LONG TIME"

    "OUR SCOPES ARE CIRCLES"

    SERIOUSLY CALL OF DUTY? SERIOUSLY?

It seems that you aren't understanding the tech they are explaining in the video.

Most of these features have been done, but utilizing different techniques. The real-time sub division they showed off is quite impressive, allowing for smoothing of objects (making them more rounded - even with low poly count). The adaptive tessellation of subdivision surfaces based on displacement mapping also looks very well executed. It can bring a pretty nice hit to performance, and it looks like they managed it well.

So I am failing to see why this new engine is such a joke to you, it is visually pleasing to me, not that I am for CoD or anything. I wouldn't call it revolutionary, but I don't think anyone even did.
(If they did it would be expected. Any new release is hyped this way. The dog is revolutionary according to the internet praises/bashing)

What do the dogs do? Sniff out campers? None of this really has to do with gameplay but graphics engines and hardware performance. I think that's the point he's trying to make and I'm partial to agree. This tech demo serves developers more than I does actual gamers, as in to say "look devs at what you can do with the new hardware!" as opposed to giving us a reason to play the game because it actually offers us a new and exciting gameplay experience. It's interesting to see from a development and tech stand point, but doesn't make me want to go out and buy the game for that sub devision.

I am just pointing out how everything is labelled as "revolutionary" by the company that is developing the game, when in-fact it is all repackaged tech. This is just showing off their engine, I think that is obvious to anyone, & I agree, it is not a good way to reel in casual gamers by just showing off technical advancements in the graphics department. However, the OP is stating how much of a joke the new engine is, which is what I was commenting on. I fail to see why he thinks it is that bad looking, or why these new techniques to bring more visual fidelity to the game is a joke to him. Nowhere in his post does he say, "They showed off new tech instead of showing off gameplay that would make me want this game," he just bashes the engine itself.

Probably because the hardware is (likely, I don't know the technical specs of both machines) already outdated PC hardware and these techniques already possible from a technical stand point. With yet another generation of consoles, you expect "revolutionary" but what you get is old PC hardware with a bit of software polish on top, and that's what developers are pushing for this next generation of console gaming. Honestly even the WiiU is more appealing to me right now because I know I'm best off just building a gaming PC for these sorts of games, I'm going to get better hardware for my money, better performance for my money and a machine that will allow me to do a whole lot more. For something that's supposed to be selling me consoles I shouldn't be walking out of it wanting to buy a PC instead.

And I realise I didn't address why this makes the engine suck, but that's just my feelings on the matter. The engine isn't really exciting, it's nice but not exciting, they should have been doing this on PC years ago.

Agreed, the engine is seemingly just good, not exciting or revolutionary. & consoles have been outdated PC hardware for awhile now. People that still bring up that point confuse me, as it has been so obvious to me for over a decade. & if you are expecting revolutionary out of another generation of home consoles, I wouldn't hold your breath. & they have been doing this on PC years ago, as I have stated multiple times that this is just repackaged tech.

I look at it with all the limitations consoles have, however, not compared to a monster PC pushing out the best graphics imaginable. & for that, this engine to me doesn't appear to be a joke. You want to talk about joke game engines that are thriving currently, go bash on minecraft. Horribly optimized for such a simple outcome.

Is it still running on a modified Quake 3 engine? My senses tell me "probably".

COD has become the michael bay of games, and thus there is a lot of marketing crap

You mess with Michael Bay, you mess with 'Murica. Anyway, it's sad that so many people buy it just because of the text on the CD and box. They barely even have to market any more.

Honestly, I do occasionally buy a new COD game, and it's not because of a new storyline or different guns, but simply because of the upkeeping of servers. I loved the game Modern Warfare 2. It sucked from a technical aspect and I don't consider it a "good" game in the grand scheme of things, but it was fun to me. I would never have bought another call of duty game if they cared about the online play of older games to any extent. At this point there are so many people with modpacks on the ps3 that it is mostly unplayable.

And that is my shameful admission about Call of Duty.

I think you'll all missing that they're comparing their new game to their last game...no where do they state it's revolutionary or that they created it.

It's not shameful. If you like you play FPS game competitively, then CoD is a good one because it has so many players. But, like you said, they can lock you out if they want. Is it not possible to start up your own COD server? That's what's great about Counter Strike. You can still play it today, 15 years later. The graphics might not be amazing, but the gameplay & community are top notch. Also, they don't try to milk you every year into buying the latest version :)

I'm sure you can set up a server on PC version, but for PS3 it's just pure shit matchmaking. such a shame for such a fun game.

There's always private games and you invite friends and they invite friends...I've spent hours playing private matches (sometimes with really odd rule sets lol)

The call of duty games are good games. People just hate to admit they're incredibly fun.

They might be fun but those playing it are the dregs of humanity, mostly. That, and it over-saturated the market; it's become the annual FIFA/Madden of action games.

    really, because let's see

Gears of War has a new game every 2 years...

Assassin's Creed has a new title every year since release...

Halo has had a new title every year since Halo 3...

Resident Evil is just as guilty...

only reason people notice this with COD is because it's such a big seller.

It has to run on Xbox and ps3, all 8 years old.

It's rubbish but keep saying it's the best thing ever worked for rolex and bulova.
Open a bulova or rolex and it's a $15 clockwork. The rolex uses a plastic lens and before it was cut
    sapphire glass.
