No, the reason for the haters is that COD fans tend to be of young age and make stupid comments about how COD is the best game in the world. Such a target market naturally attracts haters yet the games are still good. I think most of the hate goes towards the people who usually like COD, not necessarily against the games itselves.
...that's not related to me saying people notice COD is an annual release but dismiss it with tons of other games that are annuals (Halo being a prime competitor with COD's audience until BF3 came out)
Displacement mapping via tessellation shaders has been around for a while, i think unity even has it integrated as part of the standard assets package now. Polygon subdivision is a fairly impressive task though. Most publicly available game engines that support subdivisions don't implement it very efficiently.
This is a big step for COD. Congratulations for not copying and pasting.:applause: Now if I ever buy COD Ghosts, I can take in the beautiful outdoor scenery as 9 year-olds shout swears and shoot each other's heads off from some dark area where there is little light to be seen using perfectly round scopes and detailed knifes that cause hyper realistic blood to spurt out of players and pollute the rivers and turn them red, thus starting the apocalypse.
