Site Suggestion Can we ban animated images from the chatbox?

That would be kinda nice especially for people who use the chat box on their phones so they don't have to use as much data. Honestly I'd like making it so only mods/admins can embed images.

 

I disagree strongly. What WOULD be nice though is having all images confined to spoiler-esque boxes in the shoutbox.

Have your ad blocker filter out gifs, or possibly even all images (barely compressed jpegs/pngs can get rather big too) - done.
If bandwidth is of no concern and you just dont wanna see the chatbox, you can filter out the whole thing (e.g. '###taigachat_full' in uBlock).

 

Nah, I'd rather have people conform to my standards of normalcy.

 

I highly disagree but IDK an option to spoiler pictures by default for those that are so inclined could work.

 

tbh it gets fucking annoying when people try to be funny and constantly post stale memes from yesteryear, kevin said not to do this but people still do, soooooo yeah.

 

I too disagree. A compromise would be the images being hidden in spoiler tags by default.
Another one would be a button that disables/enables chat images.

Im guilty of abusing animated gifs in the shoutbox.
I feel that there should be a blacklist for any embedded images for .gif specifically. clicking is fine but embedding no.

Images however i feel are acceptable.

I feel that people are taking this WAY too seriously. Especially since OP is known to be a bit on the emotionally impulsive side.

I call a vote to ban the letters A-Z as they trigger me.

Mods are already moderating it, when they're available and when it's needed.
I hardly think gifs need to be moderated.

It's not an actual problem and the shoutbox is seldom spammed with gifs.

The few who do think it's a problem are blowing it way out of proportion.

It's called the "shoutbox" and not "meaningful conversations with random strangers" for a reason..

 

The shoutbox sometimes becomes an uncontrollable bunch of spam posting of memes and other things. Images are good, but animated images might have a limit on them, maybe something that reads your posts before they're posted and if thery're some sort of animated image at the other end of the picture link, it counts down on the aforementioned limit.

That's part of the point of the shoutbox. That it's "uncontrollable" live and uncut.
Really, if you want super tidy and edited content go read some blogs about literature. Or, better yet, read a book.

 

If only .gif's are to show this would require custom code edits. By default there's only 3 options for images.
