I just want to remind people that I am only talking about ANIMATED images.

I think that's the first time I've ever been called something like that. I'm more of the cold, calculating type who works from the shadows.

Nonono, static gifs don't trigger mairsil's uncontrollable desires. We'd only want the animated images banned, meaning we simply need to examine every single gif file for a frame count > 1. Easy.

Who are we lol? Anonymous? :D
The "we" you refer to are like two people, maybe three. So, I say you don't want to see gifs? Fine with me. Just don't look at them. Or get rid off your dialup and get some broadband.

Even this would mean custom edits to the shoutbox addon. This would also makes things complex if an update was released for the shoutbox as @ASSEMbler would have to apply the changes for this by hand meaning longer updates. By default the only options are what you can see in my post you quoted.

Anything extra such as this would cause more issues then it's worth.

Guys, you two do realize I wasn't being serious, right? Apart from the technical implementation, imho censoring the shoutbox is unnecessary. If it bothers you, just ignore it or use some tool (eg adblocker) to hide it. If it's just one or two users spamming - the "ignore user" functionality also covers the shoutbox.
If this were my forum, the most trouble I would go to would be offering a profile option to hide the shoutbox via css or sth - probably not even that.

As Demon said, the short answer is no - the only default option is to show ALL images as links. There's no picking and choosing image types.

I never meant to impose a technical solution, just a rule that says "thou shalt not post animated GIFs".

Aren't you hardly ever in the shoutbox anyway?

Seems odd to impose restrictions on something you don't really use?

I'm in it quite a bit and it's never been annoying enough to be worth mentioning.

...Absolutely ruining. Why even watch it now? I'm on Episode 3 and I just don't get why they got rid of Jar-Jar Binks from the original Star Wars - why fix what isn't broken? He was clearly the best character in the franchise.

You'll have to sleep through quite a bit of boring lightsabering until it gets good again, in ep 6. The Ewoks aren't quite Jar-Jar but they really bring the movie to the next level. Ep 7 doesn't have them but I'm sure they're gonna be a main focus in 8, after all big-eyed cuties is the only thing Disney's good for.

(But seriously, since I stumbled across the "Darth Jar-Jar" theories, I keep thinking it might've been fun if they had actually gone in that direction.)

Good recommendation, I hear they are sassy and animated.
