for some reason flashFXP wont connect and i know i have it all right. does this mean i have to reinstall the softmod on my xbox?
Is it hooked up to your router (DHCP) or are you using Static? For DHCP, just make sure the Xbox is set to Automatic/DHCP, save the changes, restart, and make sure that it gives you an IP Address back. If you see the IP Address, FTP to it with FlashFXP and enter in the generic user/pass (xbox:xbox). For static, make sure the Xbox is set to it accordingly, make up an IP Address, put in the generic subnet mask (255.255.255.0 or whatever), on your PC right click on your wired connection, scroll down to TCP/IP settings, make up an IP address (or open up command prompt and get one from entering 'ipconfig /all'), then FTP! If it still doesn't work, try making up a fake gateway between the two as well (like 192.168.0.1). Good luck!
i was tampering with it a while ago to try and get myself to connect to xlink but never worked, and yes it is static, and everything was set to how it was when it was working. i have it plugged in from my xbox straight to my computer
are you using a crossover cable ? make sure you have everything enabled in the xbox settings. i dont use flashfxp myself i use filezilla. also make sure you're using the correct port
its something on my computer's end because i cant FTP on another softmodded console that i have, and i havent done anything to it but softmod it, and put debug mode on it, which was like a year ago and yes im using a cross over cable
Go to the command prompt and type in ipconfig. It should let you see if anything is connected and has been given an IP address to that NIC. Might have just gotten an IP address change somehow. Should be given a 169.x.x.x address unless you've got a DHCP server on your machine. <Captain Obvious>Your life would be a lot easier if you splurged the $5 on a cheapy POS switch from a thrift store and plugged everything into it. Last time I used a crossover I hated every minute of it until it finally worked.</Captain Obvious>
APE speaks the truth! a cheap wired router / switch or even a cheap wireless one would be a sound investment, they are not expensive and should be loads out there, ebay or craigs list or whatever thrift stores, fleamakets etc etc.
so if i just got like a router and plugged the ethernet cable from pc to router and one from router to xbox, you;re saying it be a lot easier
Oodles easier. The router would handle dishing out IP addresses to both machines and you could get the XBox's IP either from the router itself (most have a table of connected machines with their MAC and IP) or just grab it from the XBox itself. One dumb question, are you sure you've got the username and password correct? I never bother changing them from xbox/xbox myself.
are ou sure the ftp service is enabled on the xbox? also try the old "cmd > ipconfig /release" "ip config /renew", ip address can also be set manuall from the xbox side as far as i recall
i have a feeling there might be something wrong with the cross over cable? ive used my computer on my main console, and one that i just softmodded, transfered an app over, and set aside, and i cant FTP, now im trying it with a laptop that i just installed flashfxp and filezilla on and still wont connect to either console
I was having FTP issues myself at first to. Here's how I solved it and got FTP working on my 1.1 and 1.6 Xbox. Use a router with a few ports on it. Mine is a cheapo Cisco Linksys model with WiFi and 4 ports. Make sure PC is connected to internet through router whether by cable or WiFi. (This ensures you will have connection to Xbox. If you can't get through the router for internet then you damn sure won't be getting through to Xbox...) Plug Xbox into router with regular CAT5 or 6 cable. Start Xbox. Make sure the IP is set to DHCP. Fiddle with the other IP settings if needed. Otherwise don't touch anything else there. If running UnleashX dash like me, go to the main screen and see if your IP address shows up. I use the "green no image" skin so IP address and other useful data is in a box at top right of screen. My address showed up like this: xxx.xxx.x.xxx Replace "x" with the needed numbers. If it won't show up, check the cable, router, and Xbox network settings. Hopefully it will find the network eventually... Now go to PC. Start your favorite FTP program. I use Filezilla and it works perfectly. For Filezilla I selected the "quick connect" option at top of screen. Enter the IP of the Xbox. User name and password are both "xbox" if that wasn't changed in network settings on Xbox. Port is at 21 by default. Select "quickconnect" button and wait. It may not go through the first time for various reasons. My reasons were the Xbox kept "going to sleep" on me... After I got that issue fixed my FTP worked without a problem. I have used it to copy HDD, install apps, install some game xbe files, music, video, pictures, ect. I may even rip some games I have on order ATM since the images I tried to use from the iso zone were shit... Xbox game iso torrents anyone?
