wasn't there a Panel De Pon on N64 as well? But anywho I remember in EGM back in the day more than a few people were writing in wishing Capcom had more to offer for the N64
You're doing something wrong. Looks fine on my arcade monitor, and my PVM back in the day. Also worth noting the NTSC-J one is apparently the only one that supports RGB properly. Lots of issues w/ the US version.
No seriously, Play Dreamcast on ANY TV using what ever connection apart from composite and you'll see a mesh effect over the screen. I noticed it straight away and I'm one for RGB lovelyness being from the UK and all. Seriously, it is there! You can't see it on the video over on my site because of the resolution but on a 36 inch TV you can see it with ease. There's also another DC game that suffers with the same effect but at the moment I can't recall what it is. Yakumo
Hmmm.... you mean play GB2? I don't own the game any more, but I don't recall this on either of my RGB monitors.
Yes, GunBird 2. I remember clearly the first day I put it on (DC running via S-Video) and thinking, "Shit, the Saturn game looks cleaner". Honestly. I know my screen quality well just as yourself so I know it wasn't something I did. So the only reason I can think is because of the S-Video connection. I never did have the chance to run my DC through true RGB (Thank you dumb ass NTSC TV Standards) so it could well be that the effect is not seen via RGB.
On the flip side, I've not run my DC in anything but RGB or VGA in... a really long time. I'm semi-intrigued though, but probably not enough to by the game to test.
The rumour of Street Fighter III heading to the Nintendo 64 originated in GamesMaster magazine, or at least this is where I first recall reading it. As for whether or not the Saturn could handle SF3, I know that Capcom had planned to release a conversion of Red Earth (AKA Warzard) in late 1999, probably after the port of SF Zero/Alpha 3. However, management decided the Saturn was no longer a financially viable platform so this initial CPS3 port never went into production, though it's possible some initial technical research was conducted. Based on sources from back in the day, Red Earth was being prepared to test the hardware and market for a Saturn version of SF3, which I'm certain would have used the 4MB RAM cartridge and launched around the same time frame as Biohazard/Resident Evil 2 for the console - what is it with Capcom using alternate names for different regions? I don't really want to head too far off-topic, but we all know this game became a PlayStation exclusive when its development was restarted in early '97... the rest is history, so again I'll not stray too far because the convoluted story behind the "1.5" prototype has been done to death in the past! Finally, I should just quickly point out that contrary to popular belief, Saturn Resident Evil 2 was not going to use any form of memory upgrade. In fact, when the PS version was cancelled it's claimed that ghost developer Nextech had finished approximately 15% of the simultaneously-developed Saturn code, suggesting that it was still in the alpha stage and would more than likely not have been even remotely playable. Furthermore, it seems the Saturn was yet again proving the harder system to program, as the PS build was infamously canned somewhere between 65-85% complete depending on the source.
I'd kill to see someone talented attempt this port. It SHOULD be done. I always hoped for it back in '97-'99.
Well if you go steal the source code to SF3 then maybe it will happen . You can't reasonably port a game like SF3 to someone without the source code unfortunately. It would be neat to see, but then again I always wished Saturn had lasted long enough to get a KoF 98 port using the 4MB cartridge as well as Metal Slug 2, X, and hell lets throw MS3 in there too. Oh and ofcourse Marvel Vs Capcom.
The Saturn sure had alot of life left in it when it died... seems like the Sega company slogan "X had alot of life left in it when it died"
From what I heard the Saturn got killed by Sega announcing the DreamCast. Such a shame since had developers not just dropped it on its head we could have gotten some sweet arcade ports with that 4MB cart.
