Yesterday Capcom of Japan announced that shareholders voted against a renewal of countermeasures to prevent share purchases and company takeover. It seems Capcom is now technically for sale as any willing company now has the opportunity to become the majority share holder. http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/sp/english/news/html/e140616a.html
If this is true, then c'mon Nintendo... (I wanna at least see if they or Inafune can snatch up the rights to Mega Man).
Depends who, if anyone, would want to buy it. PE houses - look forward to mass market generic games designed to maximise shareholder revenue and forget any innovations / niche games. (Imo)
A thousand times this. A new Powerstone on any console would be more than welcome. I could see online being insane. After they ported 1 & 2 to the PSP there hasn't seemed to be much interest in renewing/rebooting anything. I can only hope and pray that changes.
It would be funny if Mikami and Inefune pulled together to buy the company, shame neither of them probably have enough money to do so. Disney would be the best bet, at least that's who I'd like to see if anyone bought it. Although I'm not sure how this will effect the company, perhaps now Capcom will feel inclined to protect share holder integrity and further milk their property to encourage them from not selling out. Who knows?
Lets raise some money and buy ourselves! I got $23.50 and a used Game Gear that almost works, anyone else?
Inafune is the guy who screwed up Capcom by funding flops like Dark Void and Bionic Commando. Honestly, I have no idea why the Internet likes him so much since he's such a massive hypocrite: Creativity
Wish they'd make some more old school beat em ups. A new D&D...dreams... (Looking forward to Projecy Y when it's finally finished...)
Lol, true. I guess Inafune just wanted to do what he loved, make Megaman games, and Capcom didn't give him that freedom of expression (after MM9 and MM10 at least). Still, it would be hilarious if all the EX Capcom staff pooled together and actually bought Capcom out, at least then they'd have their rights to the IP back. Shame it would never happen. Like sonicsean89 said it would be great if Disney jumped at the opportunity as then there would be no conflict with Capcom acquiring the Marvel license to make cross over games, Capcom have by far made some of the most faithful Marvel games throughout their time, adding Disney to the mix would only expand the potential further.
End of an era for sure. This is what happens when you develop Lost Planet 3 for US and the infinitely better E.X. Troopers for Japan only with no intention of US release. Capcom decided to concentrate on the Japan market only with few US releases (or made for US junk like Bionic Commando) and they ran the company right into the ground, just like Square. Uhm, I'm not bitter or anything
IIRC, it was also his idea to hand Dead Rising over to a western studio because they tried to make it a game that would be perceived as such but players saw it as Japanese.
I'mma have to agree with this! plus not getting E.X Troopers on both PS3 & especially 3DS was a HUGE mistake by Capcom officials in my honest opinion.
The only thing I really want from Capcom is a return to the old style of Resident Evil games. That's probably never going to happen, though.
