This might be a total shot in the dark but... I have my 360 hooked up to monitor via the official Xbox VGA cable. I want to capture game play but still use my monitor. Is there some sort of cable that will split VGA and have composite so I can plug them into a standard capture card? Or is there some sort of capture card that can capture from a VGA? I've been searching and haven't had any luck so far.
I don't think i've seen a cable that has split VGA with composite. The cables i've seen only have VGA then the red/white for sound.
If it could be done, you'd need to find a way to set the VGA to 480i, plus a converter box to convert that signal anyway, and at that point, why bother. You can however use the component and composite plugs, and use the component to get a clear, 100% lag free signal, plus composite to capture.
Invest in an HD television. Then get a component capture box. This one is pretty good: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815116030
yeah... it looks like i might just have to get a HDTV. at the time i bought the monitor it was a lot cheaper than HDTVs of the same size. but HDTVs have gone down a bunch since then. thanks for the link and info guys. this thread can probably be closed since it doesn't sound like there's an easy solution.
I don't quite get what you want to do, you want to use the monitor to play and at the same time record what you are playing right? Then why don't you just plug the X360 to the capture card via composite/component and use the video capture software in fullscreen and that should probably do it I guess. I did that a couple of times while video capturing some Gamecube footage.
how do i get my 360 to display over my monitor via VGA and have it plugged in via composite into a capture card? i need like an uber cable/splitter. or a capture card with VGA input. and i haven't found either.
Can anyone confirm whether the console outputs composite with any other signal, for sync purposes? Borman seemed to be suggesting that. If so then you'd probably just need to modify the appropriate cable - and have a suitable set for it. Consider this before running out and buying a HDTV anyway...
I know it does for the packaged HD cable, composite and component at the same time, but I believe they are both 480i. So you might as well just use the composite plug and play off the PC screen in 480i, you cant capture composite + play using HD over VGA at the same time. HD capture cards are anywhere from 250+ I believe now, so that is an option as well (though its still not VGA )
Take a look at the HD PVR - it seems pretty damn good! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yi88-QlFOeI Look at his game videos in HD mode. Not bad for the price!
