Component is bad enough, would prefer RGB honestly but thats even more cash when I already have a component capture card. S-video is never good enough
you'd be surprised. I have a lot of friends who've played many times on a very ideal rgb setup. My friend has a new astro city with a new moniter that he just bought in the last year. And after they saw how good stuff looks on my crt through s-video they're pretty sold. Sometimes I get a bit of colour bleeding....but it's really not that bad.
And how many of those do you have? ;-) Incidentally, most PROFESSIONAL capture systems (e.g. Avid setups) don't use RGB, so your only choice is conversion, really. S-Video is good enough to capture to video, anyway... especially if it's for web use.
Ive got the M2, and thats enough (not counting Naomi stuff and other newer stuff that Id capture). There is no reason to capture in Svideo when Ive already got a component capture card, like I said, component is bad enough. Sure, it may cost me 30$, but the quality is a big enough difference for me. Svideo is never good enough
I can understanding you not being happy with s-video for just playing. But for the sake of a replay....why's it such a big deal?
It's not optimal, and it's adding nastiness that otherwise wouldn't be there. Personally, if I was only intending to be uploading to youtube I wouldn't care, but for the initial capture - why would you settle for shitty video quality? Better to get it right in the first place. That's great if you don't mind it, but really, a lot of people do. Either way, RGB is preferable.
Not just that. A lot of people see my pcbs running through my supergun and hands down agree that it looks wayyyy better than mame. I still have yet to see any form of emulation that feels, plays, sounds and looks EXACTLY the same as the original hardware (which I think is impossible)
Is the RGB signal coming from a DE-15 connector? Component and RGB will give similar quality video signals as long as the equipment/encoder/cables are of good quality. From my experience s-video is a tad better then composite but not worth the bother. After getting my HDTV, I refused to run anything below component/RGB/HDMI. The quality of a MAME setup has a lot to do with the quality of game play but I agree there is no substitute for the real deal. ^_^_^
Recently got Micomsoft SC-500N1 that so far has worked pretty well when capturing videos from arcade games. Tetris Plus 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5YaFUOBXtg Riding Fight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_f2XuhDBgdE Bonanza Bros (24khz) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Yr-O5s44GI SC-500N1 needs both H and V-sync, so a sync seperator is needed for most arcade games (i use Xsync-1). http://www.micomsoft.co.jp/sc-500n1.htm
Does anybody know of a good (but not stupidly expensive) capture card or USB that can do 15khz & 31khz via VGA plug? I'd love to capture video from my naomi 246/256 collection (specially since some games don't really have recorded video of them).
My capture card is a "crappy" and standard BT878 from 1999 and look what it's capable of: NEO GEO: NAMCO System 12: CPS2 All screen shots taken from real hardware, and converted to S-Video through an self built CXA1645 encoder board.
It's because I dislike strong colors so I moved the video setting sliders to put it more into my taste... Edit: Also I forgot, the video quality is improved a tad by using custom drivers, which run the chip at better setting than the original Rockwell/Conexant drivers (which really suck lol) and the de-interlace program DSCALER.
