Total so far is 33 - confirmed http://www.sky.com/skynews/home .....only 2 on that bus and one was supposed to be a suicide bomber.....so in a slanted look at it....glad one of them died! 5 bombs from latest news. 3 bombs on tubes 3 dead on 1 21 dead on another 5 dead on another 2 on buses 2 dead on on bus in pictures 2 dead elsewhere From news on a Radio station just announced. One exploded on a tube and blew a hole though a wall onto the other line Tony Blair is now back at Downing Street....for what use he will be back here...but as he is made the effort this time!
All these explosions were this morning, yet it's the aftermath that it proving to be the most devastating period as the death toll rises and we slowly learn more about suicide bombers and those responsible. In fact, on that very subject, a statement has been posted leaving very little room for error when it comes to figuring out who was responsible for this: In the name of God, the merciful, the compassionate, may peace be upon the cheerful one and undaunted fighter, Prophet Muhammad, God's peace be upon him. Nation of Islam and Arab nation: Rejoice for it is time to take revenge against the British Zionist Crusader government in retaliation for the massacres Britain is committing in Iraq and Afghanistan. The heroic mujahideen have carried out a blessed raid in London. Britain is now burning with fear, terror and panic in its northern, southern, eastern, and western quarters. We have repeatedly warned the British Government and people. We have fulfilled our promise and carried out our blessed military raid in Britain after our mujahideen exerted strenuous efforts over a long period of time to ensure the success of the raid. We continue to warn the governments of Denmark and Italy and all the Crusader governments that they will be punished in the same way if they do not withdraw their troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. He who warns is excused. God says: "You who believe: If ye will aid (the cause of) Allah, He will aid you, and plant your feet firmly." In case you don't understand the overall message, it looks as if the Secret Group of al Qaeda's Jihad in Europe (couldn't they have kept their name simple if we're being forced to take note of its actions?) want us to end our "shoulder to shoulder" relationship with America. At least this whole episode is not related to the G8 summit or London's successful 2012 Olympic bid, though I have a feeling that the citizens of Denmark and Italy will be having little sleep tonight...
Fucking crazy! But the coverage here in germany way shitty, only one TV channel was reporting on and on about it and interuppted their normal broadcast, but the ohter didn't. Kinda sad. Its probably related to the G8 and maybe, only maby to the olympic games in 2012 in london. :-( :-( :-(
Alive and well. If i were going to college i would of been at kings cross at exacly that time. Lucky im on holiday and i was on the tube at 6-7AM! Anyways i have to go havent got time to chat right now just wanted to tell you that im ok. Horrible around here in london, Paulo
Ok not to start a pissing match over such a tragic event, but global politics aside... who else in the world would do such a chicken shit thing? Most terrorism of this type is done by whom? Hmmm... Islamic people, extremists or what ever you want to call them, what a shock! So I don't see how the assumption is "prejudiced" in any way. I'm sure when a bomb goes off next time it'll have been Catholic nuns that were behind it. :smt009
Horrible news guys, I hope all the UK board memebers here are ok. Apparently, "Al Queda in Europe" was previously unknown, and no statement has been seen on any of the websites that Alqueda normally uses, so it's unclear what kind of connection this group has to Ossama's Al Queda, as in if it's directly funded or associated with him or if it's a splinter group, or an independent group that's taking the Al Queda name in solidarity, or whatever. Damn. I know I'm not the most vivid supporter of our war on terrorism around here (as you all know) but you know I'm not exactly a pacifist either. I hope these bastards get what they deserve. If anything good can come out of this, maybe it will be a new direction for our military actions, like maybe we need to focus on Al Queda a little bit more? Just seems to me that they've taken the heat off of Al Queda a little in the last 4 years and instead wasted it where it didn't belong (like say, Iraq.) So maybe now people will get thier resolve tightened up and get our governments to start fighting the people who matter. Just sad to see that it took more innocent people's lives to wake us up to it.
Glad to hear from you, Paulo - although I'm sure there are more in London. How about - oh my, this sounds bad but his name escapes me - the guy who bought Legit's Sophia and the spindles of GD-Rs? Latest reports suggest 37 dead, and there were only 4 bombs.
chicken shit? you mean dropping a bomb on someone from thousands of feet high in the air isnt chicken shit? 'islamic people, extremists or what ever you want to call them' isnt a prejudiced statement....give me a break. at the risk of sounding like a heartless asshole, i dont find this shocking at all. the members of the g8 form a small oligarchy(for lack of a beter term), which isnt bound by a constitution or any rule of law. their decisions effect the entire world, yet only eight nations have a voice. this year the g8 meets in london, im sure if it met in canada or the u.s. the same thing would have happened. i can only guess that from the terrorists perspective the fact that the people of england havnt forced tony blair from office over the leaked memos/cause for war only furthered their resolve. everytime bush or tony blair stands up and advocates violence and use of force against the terrorists they just make the problem worse. you can not defeate terrorism by force, you have to open dialog, you have to allow their voice to be heard. its the whole reason they are blowing stuff up, because their voice has been squashed, they believe injustices have been commited against them, and they believe violence is the only effective tool that they can use to accomplish that.
lets not start this guys. This is a time to just be supportive to our guys/gals in England. I'm truly sorry for everything that you all have had to endure today and my sympathies to the families. Rest assured we'll stand by your side as your country has ours since 9/11. Be safe everyone.
First up, the G8 summit is in gleneagles, in scotland, some 400miles away from london. Secondly, people do want Tony Blair out. Trouble is, they don't necessarily want labour out, and in our system, you don't vote for a leader. Also, FPTP prevents smaller parties getting a say. Don;t forget when looking for reasons that the fact that london will be hosting the 2012 olympics was announced only yesterday. Its a tragedy, but people could see that before long london (or elsewhere in the UK) would be hit. It was just a matter of time. Not that that justifies it in any possible manner.
First warning, this is drifting into O/T and political bollocks. Not on this forum thanks, you all nkow that by now.
Hmm, a LOT of people I know want Labour out! Look at the map from the election - mostly blue! But of course, that isn't what counts.
i heard about 30 minutes ago on the radio that the count is now at 30 deaths, 700 (!!) wounded, but this is maybe not official.
Sorry Tachikoma, I tried to keep the politics out of it. And this is the last I'll say on the subject. Way to snip the comment, I was talking about people "assuming" that it was terrorist related right away and not G8. I doubt it really had much to do with it. I'll agree with that statement. Not much of a chance with people who would rather kill or convert you than talk, but that's another issue I will not get into.
You know guys, this isn't really the place to start debating international politics, this thread is about the bombings that happened today. I know I'm not the most gung-ho person when it comes to our full-of-shit leaders. But really you've got to take a step back and think about the context of your dissenting voice. Because although you may not want to sound like a "heartless asshole," to get up and start a political rant in the very same breath after seeing the kind of destruction that happened today really does make you look like one. This isn't a jab at you Social, because I happen to agree with everything you're saying. What I'm sayng is you have to have respect for those people who died today. Those people are victims of violence too, the same violence that the people we can't stand are perpetrating, and represent thier failure to protect us. But it does not good to blame them for it. They didn't deserve to die no more than all the people in Iraq deserved to die, or the people in the Spanish train bombing, or the WTC. We're all in this together. What we can do to stop it is to put pressure on our leaders to stop bombing Iraq and to start hunting the terrorists, and to address the root causes of terrorism (poverty, injustice, etc.) But going on a chat board and spouting like that makes the antiwar movement look bad, bro. Those are points that should be discussed (and acted upon as soon as possible.) But it would be more respectful to address them in another thread.
Glad Pauo`s OK to.........no problems for me getting home last night on my little old scooter.....and roads quiet this morning also. Adam James works very close to Tottenham Court Road and lives in Brighton so his trains/travel arrangements wouldn`t have gone near there unless he had other arrangements yesterday Death toll rising slowly :-(
I just think its sad harming innocent people.... its all about politics and as allways casual people will have to pay for it... it was and is the same in vietnam, iraq, afghanistan, usa and now london... all around the world the innocent get harmed!! People have nothing to do with the mess leaders got us in.. even though in democracy you vote for a leader.. you still dont know what business they run behind the scenes. My sympathie goes to all people in london wishing them best! edit: makes me think of a song by a dutch artist "boudewijn de groot - welterusten meneer de president" (Sleep tight mister president)
