I got a set of official Sony PS3 component cables for $20 from Bestbuy the other week. They work fine with the PS2 and the other PS2 ones on sale were ~$60!

RGB is a form of component video (ie, it has red, green and blue components instead of a colour encoding scheme like NTSC or PAL), but as far as consoles and typical consumer electronics go, component is incompatible with RGB.

    RGB is RGB.

Component is YCbCr/YPbPr. they re different and not interchangeable. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Component_video

AFAIK the US doesn't split a signal into RGB for televisions. I got an RGB scart cable for my PS which also works on the PS2 from Hong Kong an age ago. Of course, almost none of the TVs in the USA have scart.

I need RGB :) The point being, I need to mod the cable for my arcade setup. I know most US places wouldnt have, but occasionally some places would have it, thus thats what Im looking for heh
