+ 2 I can't say anything about the console version, but the PC version kicks ass. The best FPS I've played on the PC in years. Action like a mthrfckr. And I saw something about the grenade launcher being too powerful, have you ever tried a real grenade launcher?
I don't understand how a game can be "too short". Every motherfucking game these days seems to be too short for everyone. What gives? That's the story they wanted to tell. A lot of money, and more importantly time and effort goes into almost every game, and this one obviously shows that it took a lot of all of that. A lot of people behind it, using their abilities. And yet we complain, and yet the complaint is that a game is not long enough. How much does a movie cost these days, at the theatre, and how many hours of one-time fun is that? MW2's story was good. It made me feel something strong, as opposed to a lot of crap that makes me feel like I really don't give a damn about aliens and demons and other sci-fi crap. Guess how long it takes me to get through Gunbird? With some trouble at the end... maybe an hour at most. And there's technically a story line. One of these days, I want there to be a properly, possibly aggrivatingly realistic game. Like, someone shoots the shit out of your legs, and you're stuck on the ground, you can move slow. Get your arm shot a bunch? Well, you're not going to use a rifle. Pull out a pistol and have worse aim, one-handing it. I want to try and reload while running at full speed or jumping and watch 'myself' fumble getting the clip in it's slot. Maybe even drop it. Like, I wish counter-strike source could do this stuff, but then of course it could always be turned off for some normal tech-gaming and teamwork.
The problem with COD's fighting system is that there's not much to the fighting. If you see a guy first or get the first shot off you're going to win the battle about 99.8% of the time. If you're close to him you're going to stab him. If you're far you're going to shoot him. But in reality the battle is over with one pull of the trigger whether it's with your knife of your gun. So when you break it down it's all just melee. There are some exceptions like when you're both under cover and you have to play a cat and mouse game to get the kill and that's a lot of fun, but only 1 in 5 battles are like that. The only other shooters I play are Halo and Team Fortress 2 and it's more dynamic fighting. If you're close to a guy in a room in Halo you can throw a sticky, then shoot, then melee. You have different options in the same battle. Killing is so easy in COD that you'd never waste your time with a grenade if the person is next to you because you'll be dead before you can pull it out. You're just going to start spraying bullets and you'll either win or lose in the span of about 2 seconds or less. When you run around a corner and see an emey with his back to you the game should just have him automatically fall over and die because you're have to try to lose to actually lose. There are too many situations like that.
I just read Blackhawk Down so if you want to learn about realism you should read that book. There are a lot of situations where people are shot but still able to fight. Some of the US soldiers had problems with their modern weapons made to go through body armor. The bullets did go through body armor.....but it was such a clean in-and-out shot that it ended up having less stopping power. The militia fighters could take 2-3 hits and still keep coming. Some of Delta's had the heavier SAW weapons that basically dismembered people when they shot them. They were slower and heavier but it was a guarnateed kill. Maybe COD could decide the damage based on the weapon you're shot with. If you get shot with a modern CAR then they could slow your movement but you still can fight for a prolonged period of time. The SAWs are heavier so if you're using that maybe you run more slowly. Also....why not add in civilians to multiplayer? Hit a civi and your team's score goes down. Imagine an 8 vs. 8 game with 100 civilians running in and out of the buildings all over the map. You could also have one side be militia that blend in with the civilians so they're harder to spot, but make up for it by giving them fewer weapon options.
Haven't been gaming in quite awhile too many goof ball in the cafe. If its not one thing its another Oh Well guess some idots just like to spoil the fun.
There was a mod called Action Halflife that was kind of like that. The problem with too much realism is the fun element goes away, and also that you end up being griefed too much online.
Well, doesn't this happen, to a certain extent, in Deus Ex? IRC, your health meter showed different areas of your body getting damaged. If your arms got damaged your aiming suffered, and if your legs got damaged you walked more slowly or if they really fucked up your legs you fell and you moved like in crouched position and very, very slow.
I'd like to see a fighter do that limb damage thing again.... But if you want a true to life FPS join the millitary or play painball.
um what? Action Halflife was the OPPOSITE. You could run faster and spray bullets all around. Action Half Life was made to make Half Life play like a John Woo movie. ...the John Woo part is from their website's own description.
