Guys we've had some company people register and I would advise caution. They might be here for the same reasons many other programmers are here, but they might be reps checking to make sure we're not posting anything confidential. K
They cant see any of this and some other areas though right? That would mean other then our general crap and the marketplace we are good?
I don't think that there is a need to reveal the companies or "out the rats", just use your better judgment. Even if there weren't any company people here, confidential information posted on the boards or anywhere else on the internet can easily be found and tracked back to you.
My advice: hide the marketplace from unregistered users. Other than that, there is nothing to worry about.
A lot of companies also assume/confuse the collector marketplace for these items with bootlegging/uploading, which is another reason some of them are directed to these forums.
There isn't much of a fine line, in a lot of cases; this is the community that released Sonic Xtreme to the public illegally, after all... and although I doubt Sonic Xtreme being public could hurt Sega nowadays, other stuff that has come out of this community could possibly have, like for example Propellor Arena... it could have been released as a game on a newer platform... Also, the Manhunt 2 beta has just leaked a few days ago, it wouldn't be farfetched to check out this community for being responsible for it, even though I know we had nothing to do with that game's release.
hmmm if they believe, that the ASSEMbler community is behind the Manhunt 2 beta leaked, then they are sniffing the wrong doggys ass.
lol true we didnt have anything to do with it, but I would wager we WOULD have been the ones if we could have
Given the Halo 3 retail discs recently leaked, Microsoft might be one of those doing a bit of snooping just to see where they resurface. Other than that, I seriously doubt anything on AG would be a HUGE shock to most companies.
Correct me if I'm wrong fellas, but I was under the impression that posts made by users on a site such as this were not under the control of the admins or owners of the site, thus the owner cannot be held for any illegal activity such posts were to contain? For instance, if someone were to post child porn here, that would not be assembler's fault. Now, if "someone" were to leak a game on these forums, I would assume that Assemblergames.com also cannot be held responsible for that? (of course, this doesn't mean that some angry company couldn't still sue, or try to strongarm thier will.)
You know, that reminds me of when the French version of Halo 2 was leaked out before retail launch...you'd think MS/Bungie would learn by now
