Err I think you got part of that mixed up. The second half of thta paragraph is correct. The first part has nothing to do with me.
Its because of my uncle, hes a flamer. We've talked about it and they said if you ever turn out remotely like him we will disown you. Everytime he calls they hang up on him, its horrible. Though he is slightly crazy, but yeah they basically ground it into our heads, your gay, your dead.

Purge, my advice to you is wait until you move out on your own before you tell them. Then they can't hold stuff over you, like oh say.... kick you out of the house.

Yes it sucks, and yes it shouldn't have to be that way, but fuck them, you've got to think about yourself. Do you want to be floating around friends houses and working shitty ass jobs to afford rent, or do you want to let your parents (however closeminded they may be) foot the bill until you're in a position to do it yourself?

Think practically, because when you're on your own and an independent adult, your parents have no more say in how you live your life. They may try to pull that "You're no son of mine" baloney but at least they won't be able to fuck with you. And, 90% of the time most people will decide that they like having a realtionship with their children more than ostracizing them for lifestyle choices. They will get over it eventually.

    Good luck.

I doubt there are many straight people who "like" the practice... that's not the issue. It's all about tolerance of other people's lives, their individuality and their lifestyle. If someone doesn't like homosexuality, fine, it doesn't have to be a part of their life. It isn't part of mine, and I personally don't find the practice appealing. However, I don't have any right to make any comment about how other people live their lives. When someone goes from accepting a person to rejecting them simply on the grounds of their sexual preference, THAT becomes biggotry. I find it pretty hard to defend. The religious angle is a fair point, but the majority of gay bashing isn't done by devout Catholics, as far as I can tell. Besides, even if it was, a certain modicum of respect is called for: it's possible to explain religious views in a calm and respectable manner, and it's also important to respect the other person's decision not to listen to your advice, for their own reasons.

The bottom line is, if someone dislikes you because of something you were born with, it's generally a good sign they're a twat.

  10. Oh man, you won't drink alcohol, but you'll eat that foul stuff?? We've got to get you some peanut butter or something, because with the way vegemite tastes, it just CAN'T be good for you!! :smt043

And Alchy, I wasn't defending discrimination or gay bashing or anything - I find it truely horrible that people can be made to feel inferior by others on account of where they grew up, what color their skin is, or their sexual preferences. However, here in America, (no offense to anyone) it is extremely common for the gay-rights community to lump anyone who doesn't agree with the practice into the same group as the horrible people who would kill someone because they were gay - much like our President, the prevailing opinion is that "if you are not for us, then you are wholly and totally against us" and I just wanted to make the clairification that not all people who disagree with the practice are hating bigots, as that stereotype is certainly applied very liberally here.

I know you weren't mate, I didn't mean to imply it. It's a tough subject to tackle because anyone who engages in it has to be careful what they say, imply, and appear to associate with etc etc. For what its worth I think you put it pretty tactfully.

Sure, it's a valid point. Of course it should be acceptable to disagree with or dislike the practice, that's entirely up to the individual.
