Shows how much I know about these...
Maybe you'll want to try and removing the coin battery for a couple seconds, then putting it back in? Usually fixes problems.

I'm not sure what to do next. I think I'm just going to list it up for sale.

It has been laying around and given to me by the company that used it to develope on. No it was not insured because it was handed to me by the original owner. There shouldn't be anything wrong with it I think I'm just not doing something right. To reset the password do I use "tool single" or "linux single"? Also at startup I'm only getting 1 hdd recognized, there's supposed to be 2 correct? Also on the back there is a empty slot what goes in it?

To reset the password you use "tool single". You are correct about the hard drives, but only one is connected to the the PC card. The other is connected to the PS2 side and isn't directly accessed by PC card.

The empty slot I think that you're talking about is the PCMCIA slot that is connected to the PS2 side for putting games on.

Make sure that both of the switches at the front are up and log in.
    Once logged in as root

    try

    cd /usr/local/sce/bin/

    then

    ./dsedb

If you get a cannot connect, it's very likely that your boards on the inside are loose and need to be re-seated.

This will mean dismantling it to nearly fully stripped and then putting it all back together.

What I found with my one (for some reason) was that after I had put it back together and it was laying down, it worked. As soon as I stood it up, it would stop working.

There is really good guide here that should help you.

You can reset the password in "tool single" or "linux single" mode.
Only 1 hdd is connected to the SBC card, the 2nd is connected to the PS2 side of the Tool.
Do you mean an empty PCI slot or the PCMCIA slot wich is for the external PS2 hdd (same as the one used by japanese SCPH-10000/15000/18000 units)?

During the boot, do you get an error message from /dev/mrp stating it can't find the hardware?

I'm guessing it's for a external HDD on the back. No I'm not getting any error's during boot everything checks off ok. The guy I got it from said that I should be running via a network instead of using the terminal?

Tried that as weel still says the same thing. BTW I'm thinking along the lines of $400-450 but I did tell DefectX11 that he could have first dibs if I decided to sell but if he don't buy then you'll have second stabs.

    I'm out of ideas then??

If everything connects it should work as far as I'm aware.

The unit was controlled from either the ds* command running on a networked PC under linux, Snsys Target Manager or Metrowerks Codewarrior's utility from a PC under Windows.
The result is the same wether you do it locally, from a networked machine or a serial terminal.
    Here are the switches:

What happens if you run ./dsidb instead of ./desb?

It runs dsidb and pops up with a list of stuff but there's still nothing on the TV side.

Look at the dsnet.pdf and diskboot.pdf (from the PS2SDK) for all the reset commands and try them.
