So, I've been thinking about selling my 360 for a while, and I finally decided to do it. I took it to a local shop, because I thought I ought to get a better deal there than at Gamestop.

He looks at my pristine condition 360, and says, "We can give you $60." I don't even try to contain my rage. I say, "WHAT?! Are you insane? Why would I sell you my 360 for $60? That's ridiculous." He says, "Well, we sell them for $160, so we have to buy them for $60." I say, "So you sell them for over twice what you buy them for." He says, "Well, we're a business. We have to make money somehow."

"We're a business." What a fucking idiotic excuse for having horrible prices. Yeah, you're a business, and if you want my business, you should have reasonable prices. You could buy them for $120 and still make a profit. But no, you'll settle for no less that a 166% profit. Well guess what? Not only are you not going to get a $40 profit, you're going to get zero profit from me. You just fucked yourself in the ass.

Honestly, why would a sane person sell their 360 for $60? That's the price of one new game! You would have to be either very lazy or very stupid. I honestly cannot believe this shit. The best part of this story was that I was all ready to sell it, so I wiped the hard drive. Now my hard drive is clean but I have no money. Thanks a lot, dipshits.

Unfortunately that's nothing new. I sold all my US Saturn stuff to Microplay when I was younger. Hard lesson to learn once you realise.

I know it's nothing new, but I was under the impression that this place was better than Gamestop for selling stuff. They have decent prices on old games, at least.

You pay a price for convenience (at Gamestop and stores like that). You'll get more money back if you put in more effort... or just sell directly to someone. All markup goes to you in a private-party sale! :)

The store I do repair work for (a franchise in australia) would offer you the same, if not less. When they onsell they have to pay a 10% franchise fee, wages and about $14k in store rent a month. They got to make money somewhere.

It's a place of business. Profit is it's number 1 priority, so clearly they're going to try and give you the lowest amount possible. You can try haggling, but it's usually much more difficult to do that with a franchise store.

I learned this when I traded in a Nintendo 64 with 3 controllers, Mario 64, Smash, Goldeneye, and a few other games and got $15 for it. I was 10 years old, and after that I realized that I would never get cheated like that again.

Depending on the model, thats about the price they go for (assuming no games etc).

You can buy pre owned xbox 360s here for £60 (so $90). Wouldnt expect to get much when selling to them.

He said the sell them for $160. Plus, I've seen them go for over $100 on eBay.

Also they have to offer a warrenty on the machines and the Xbox 360, let's be honest is not exactly the most reliable machine ever made.

Here in Japan, the original White Xbox 360s tend to sell for anywhere between Y10,000 and Y3,000 just because they are so unreliable and even then they tend to get sold as junk with a 7 day warrenty...

Sounds like stores here. The best thing to do is to sell consoles privately, trying to sell consoles at stores is just pure robbery.

I understand stores have rent, and staff to pay but ripping off their customers to make money isn't exactly going to give the business a good look.

XBOX 360 is a very cheap console today, I wouldn't even buy one secondhand unless it was junk and bundled with controllers. You're kinda burning your money buying a first version XBOX 360..

Anyway, you did the right thing la-li-lu-le-lo you walked out. That'd show them! Did you take it to gamestop afterwards? I know EB/Gamestop don't give much cash for consoles..

Sell on eBay and buy on eBay (Internet in general is what I mean).

Rather let these rip off stores shut down and suffer then provide them with my hard earned money.

Hell no, I don't think I'd ever sell something at Gamestop (though I have in the past). I'm sure they'd give me the same amount or less. I might sell it on eBay, or I might just keep it. I don't really like eBay's new policy where they withhold your money until the buyer has received the item. Selling on eBay is a bit of a pain anyway.

Is that just for new sellers? or is that a USA thing?

I certainly do not get funds withheld from me.

It applies to sellers below a certain points range (I forget what they call it, the number beside your name) and sellers with a rating below a certain percentage. I have a perfect rating, but I haven't sold many items, so it applies to me. It's quite annoying.

I seem to remember ASSEMbler saying he only had 1 or 2 negative feedback ratings, and eBay pulled the same shit on him.

eBay is not what it used to be. I wish another, better auction site would pop up.

Sell it on craigslist also what I like to do if I decide to sell a game or a system is to call beforehand.

I recently sold a PS2 to my local game store and they gave me 18 bucks,it was no big deal to me as they have a nice import section there so I have gotten some nice deals on games but 60 bucks for a 360 is bullshit.

I had actually asked them before how much they would give me, and they said they couldn't tell me unless I actually brought the system to the store. They wouldn't even give me a rough figure.

Although it is strange they would not give you a rough figure, I would hazard a guess it has to do with saying we'll give you $15 to $80 for the system, some idiot bringing in a rough system with bits missing and still demanding $80 and causing a scene as he was told $80.
