some essentials for every controller freak to have:

Densha de Go Controller (as mentioned already ;)) Type 2 ones are unfortunately üpretty expensive, but the older ones are cheap
Samba de Amigo Maracas (only the Dreamcast ones, not the rubbish Wii crap)
Rez Trance Vibrator (is there anything more senseless beside this and pachinko controllers? :D)
Taiko No Tatsujin Tatacon (Ps2 ones are easy to find for cheap all over japan - more than a million made of them)
    Donkey Konga Kongas
Sega Bass Fishing Rod (the Dreamcast one made by Ascii)
Ascii Grip V2 (pretty rare and going for extreme prices nowadays, but still a novelty thats really useful and good quality)
    Namco G-Cons
    Sega Virtua Gun
DJ Hero Controller (very well build and good fun and the big box looks impressive and confuses everyone and makes them think its just a spoof of guitar hero;), +dirt cheap to find)

i tend to buy just controllers that i really would use, but still the pachinko ones are tempting hahahahaha
and theres a few more things that i need to get, but wont mention here before having done so ;).

Around here Crystal Pepsis are on sale too, for 99 cents each. I have bought several already. It says on the internet that they are on sale for 8 weeks, starting August 8th. I hope they bring it back time to time. I been psyched for it to come back since I saw the video where LA Beast drank a 20 year old bottle of it.

Did anyone try Pepsi X? It was a promotional Pepsi that was made to plug X-Factor. It was Dragonfruit flavored pepsi. It was really good. It was so good when they discontinued I bought Dragonfruit concentrate and tried to make my own. Then my blood sugar went crazy and I had to stop using it. Best pepsi varient I ever tried tho.

I don't have much in the way of "obscure".

I have one working translucent pink Hori Mini Pad, and one WIP broken transparent light purple Mini Pad (I've been meaning to finish it for some time now; the issue was that it had a broken plug; I figured that it was cheap, about 40 bucks, and I could fix it easily with my own graveyard of N64 controller parts).

In addition, I've got that weird Saturn-ish Seaman PlayStation 2 controller. Don't have any PS2 games to use it for but since it's USB I tried it with my computer. It's alright.

The next best thing I can think of are my Hori GameCube controllers; blue camo and transparent red. I quite like them, they're some of the more solidly built third-party GCN controllers (or would they be second-party, since they're allowed to put the Nintendo GameCube name and logo on them?). I just can't use them for Smash (I keep bringing that up, sorry!) but for most anything else on GCN I find them quite fine to use. They're more so "obscure" in that nobody really talks about them outside of "yep, they're definitely a thing that exist". The clear colored ones kinda take me back to the days of Nintendo's clear N64 controllers; I wish that's something Nintendo would do again (I'm not talking about 2DSes, I mean something people actually play on).

Finally, speaking of Gamecube, I recently hunted down one of those SNES-shaped Pelican retro controllers for a decent deal. It feels alright, a bit cheap, especially in having a crap SEGA-style D-pad, but not unpleasant to use. I wish I could get a Hori one, but the average price is too much for me,especially for its limited applications.

Dj Hero and Beatmania are completely different things. And for 5-10 bucks, it surely wont hurt you to give it a try.
