Did we ever do one? I think we just talked about it but people thought the name was too dirty so we went with Crank the Weasel, which everyone was weirdly fine with. Also, Frank the Weasel is pretty funny. Not too many weasels named Frank.
You want to know something kind of sick? Those are the first video game design documents I ever read, so they were kind of my template when I had to do my own at work. Like, the parts where you describe the explicit details of Mr. Helpful dying horribly in the strip club, I thought writing stuff like that was Game Design and I adapted that into my work. That's an effect you had on the world.
I still want to believe it will be possible to one day have this game finished. I bet many from this forum would fund kickstarter if it was made.
@brians any idea on what limits the data shared here will have? From what it looks like theres tools to make compiled data but I dont see anything outside of those tools and the demo level Speaking strictly PC here since anything else is hard to say to begin with
I absolutely did one, it stayed longer than I expected, I started to think we got one past the goalie.
Do you mean this one? It's not "Jerk"... he didn't even have a first name yet. It's when we were still fighting against calling him anything other than just "Weasel".
I think this logo is awesome and title itself is better than Crank for sure. Thanks for sharing, each new share in this topic brings happiness to me
Glad to have you here, @brians! Also thanks so much @Eric Browning for all that you've shared! I just hopped back into this thread so I'm excited to boot the demo up. I'm looking forward to seeing what else you'll share with us! This is exciting.
Eric and I don't plan on putting a limit on anything. Whatever we have, we'll upload. As for the playable demo build, neither one of us have been able to find those actual level files. Conversely, we have the files for later-in-development levels like the Harbor, the Factory, and (I think) Midtown and maybe the Airport, but there's no playable build for any of those assets. It's a bit of a Ladyhawke conundrum.
Guys: http://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2017/10/13/canceled-ps2-game-crank-weasel-now-playable-pc-demo/ Some publicity is already there
Truly horrifying that model is. Very nice regardless. To Eric and Brian, if either of you locate more tools or assets, do see if you can also document what tools were for what and what sources are for what.
It would be awesome if one day more stuff is located and fans make some sort of restoration of game and make playable with all content thta was done before cancallation.
And now for something completely different. Weasel: Game Boy Color! That's right. We had designs for a side-scrolly / 2D-spritey, portable Weasel, even though the console version was nowhere near figured out. Yes. We were optimistic delusional. Oh, well... Look! Drawings!
Ugh, this is so cool. Thanks, @brians ! And, hey, there's nothing wrong with looking ahead and being prepared, after all Maybe a 2D portable game would have been more likely to make it to market after all... It's really a shame that there are so few 3D character platformers these days. It's an under-utilized genre! Thanks for sharing these sketches. I like the style of the architecture. Deciding not to go with a masturbation joke? I guess you guys must have been a more civilized bunch than your Chicago office counterparts, then. ;P
