Creating Glass masters from pressed discs?

    Glass masters as in CD's and DVD's ect :)

    You mean read the data off a retail disc and use that to create a master so you can churn out bootlegs by the thousands as we have done here for generations or using that specific complicated system of creating the master for some reason?

    It's been tried - not actually back to the glass master stage, but by stripping off the Al layer from the disk then plating it with Ni and using it as an electroforming master. The results were pretty poor, because the injection molded plastic has less resolution than the original master and each replication step adds a bit of noise - so by the time you get to the point where you have a usable stamper the pits are pretty rough looking and give a poor readback signal.
