So, I tried the Crysis demo. Here are my specs: -8600GT -2 GB of RAM -AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ -Windows XP Home Edition Game plays OK on medium, but has some issues when it gets to high (anti-alasting just kills it, even on 2x). I can play the graphics on high at about 10-20 FPS, depending on what is onscreen. Very High is disabled by default, possibly since I don't have DX10. Gameplay is...eh. Very similar to Far Cry, but with a rechargeable shield like Halo. You can modify your gun with various things, although I am not sure if you can get upgrades. Voice Acting is OK, and the story seems pretty typical of most FPS's (AKA: EEEVVVILLL Koreans found something, people in powered Exoskeletons have to go check it out). I don't know, it seems like a nice benchmark, but nothing in the demo really caught my eye. Hopefully, the final will be a bit better. Also, there is a bunch of splash screens before the demo begins, so you will have to sit there for about 30 seconds every time you load it. Also, for those who have DX10: How does it run on your system?
Ah, thanks for reminding me of this. I'll download it and see how it runs on my 7900GS. Edit: On further inspection, the demo isn't supposed to be released for another 10 hours. Where did you get it from?
i have directx10, and i have to say it runs very smooth. I have a 8800GTS 640 MB and i play with everthing on high (no AA). Although i dont know if the directx10 features are implemented in the demo, but if i had to guess i'd say yes.
Just ran it on my system: Core 2 Duo E6600 (2.4ghz) Nvidia 7900gt 256mb 2GB ram Vista Ultimate Ran reasonably well on medium at 1280x1024, but a lot better at 1024x768. Sadly nowhere near the native resolution of my monitor (1920x1200), and no AA. I need to get a 8800 at some point..
Just didn't run it on my system: P4 2.7 Radeon 9700 Pro 128MB 1280MB DDR 266Mhz RAM Win XP SP2 Didn't download the demo because that's the whole purpose of buying a 360, avoiding upgrading my fairly old computer. Very impressive gameplay I must say, you point and shoot stuff.
Yeah, mine runs pretty well on 1024x768 with mostly everything besides water on high (Curious about the Ultra High settings..DX10 only, or retail only?). I get about 20-30 FPS depending on what is on the screen. Its OK...To be honest, I would prefer to use a 360 controller then a mouse/keyboard. There isn't that much ammo, and firefights can be tedious. The Health system is pretty much the same as Halo's (Recharge shield). Nothing really too special, though.
recharge shield is for pussies imo, no offence to Halo-worshippers. Also, I hate the myriads of respawning points. People must pay for their mistakes and get good at the game.
Same here pretty much - I just want a piece of both cakes! About the same here then - I can't play at anything below about 35fps though as I notice it and it annoys me (which is why i moved it down from 1280x1024 to 1024x768)
If I even tried the demo on my pc I'm fairly it would just explode on the spot . It looks like a really sweet game offline and online. To bad I will miss out of this.
I just gone with the demo, and I have to say that this game kind of makes me want a new graphics card. It looks fantastic at medium settings, and that's all my 7900GS can tolerate at 1440x900. I tried High and the screen blacked out... As far as gameplay, I think it's one of the better shooters I've played lately (not counting Bioshock). I might have to get this when I get a hold of some money. One thing, though - I'm wondering where the slo-mo upgrade is. I saw all this cool shit in the starting video and a lot of it wasn't in the demo. I'm guessing you just find it later on in the full game. Edit: Hmm.... new line of 8800's coming out in November. Anyone possibly interested in a 7900GS?
I heard some guy at crytek said this game would be impossible to port into X360 or PS3. Can anyone confirm that?
I'm no developer, but I dare say it is very possible with downgrading. I think the 360 might be able to handle it on medium with some modifications to the overworld (Breaking it up better and more load times). I mean, I never thought the Xbox would get Far Cry, either (Granted, that is mostly Ubisoft wanting to make a buck on the console crowed). The PS3 might have some issues, and the Wii would have to be built from the ground up and only Crysis in name.
To clarify: What the guy said was that Crysis cannot be ported to 360 or PS3 without downgrading both graphics and level design, and the reason wasn't horse-power. His reason was memory (RAM).
I've said it before and I'll say it again: a next gen system with 256MB of RAM is fucking pathetic. 512MB should be a bare minimum of dedicated system memory. 1GB is better. Even a 768\256 split between system and GFX would be better, but none of this 256MB BS.
True, but that didn't stop Sony from adding a fuckton of stuff to the PS3, only to have it bottlenecked by the RAM.
