yes, but that's their problem, not ours. They wanted to focus on the processor?fine, they didn't make much of a GAMES console though.
You know, I really wouldn't mind a method similar to the N64 Expansion Pack that allows you to put more RAM on your console that games could take advantage of. Granted, it does go against the whole concept of a home console, though.
I m under the impression that the reason they haven't done something like this is because soldered memory is much faster than having a cart-connection. Other than that, there's also uniformity , which the PS3 is terrible at even within its first year.
Go into the editor and spawn a TAC tank. Shoot it at anything greater than one kilometer away. My jaw dropped...
I was just about to mention the expansion pack, anyway, but I can see the idiot execs at both companies trying to find any excuse to get rid of the extra $2 bucks in production and assembly costs that said socket would represent. BTW, cant crytek fix the RAM issue with streaming?
Of course Crysis could be ported to the PS3. It may not be as easy to accomplish as a port to the 360, but it could be done. The RAM issue that everyone makes such a big deal over is just a hurdle that requires programming around. It's not a failure of the system as most claim, it's just a different way of doing things, much like the rest of the PS3 architecture. Complex and time consuming for sure, but effective when done correctly. The real question is, why would they bother bringing it to PS3 when it would actually take some time and programming skill (and therefore money) to do, for a relatively small audience...?
Because a PS3 is cheaper than a $3,000 DX10 gaming machine. IF they port it, the levels will probably 50-75% smaller than the PC version.
What amazes me is that sony made the same stupid mistake again (PS2 has half DC's VRAM) but this time (and with the X360's bigger fanbase) it will be a major punch to sony's ego when the X360 gets Crysis and PS3 dont becos of overall lack of power. On the commercial side of things, PS3 as PS2 isnt a good platform for FPS games. Both Xbox and X360 have a virtual monopoly on the genre (in consoles). Its ironic that the Wii could shatter that order if it had more raw hardware power. MP-3 is just a glimpse at the wiimote capabilities in said genre.
I played the demo on my machine and it ran pretty decent, I would imagine that the final version will be much more optimized, hopefully, at least. The game doesn't seem to bad but doesn't really that amazing, to me at least. I am still using DX9 but it does look like DX10 does improve the graphics a decent amount. C2D 6750 @ 3.0Ghz 2GB Ram 8800 GTX
You have a 8800GTX and you keep using DX9? I suppose you're still on XP instead of Vista, cuz thats the only logical explanation I can think of...
You would be correct. The card screams on DX9...although I wish I would have waited a few months and got the 8800 GT after seeing some of the benchmarks posted. I guess that is just the computer world though.
You could do what I'm about to (if you dont like vista): DualBoot. Do a 100GB or more disk partition, install vista there, disable all the stupid stuff that eats into the CPU and GPU (Aero and all that crap) and install all your games there. Use the other partition for XP and your daily non-gaming use, and you're ready to go:nod: I used to do that with XP and Win2K before SP2 was released.
I have been thinking about doing that. I have an extra 250GB SATA in my case and I was thinking about using that for Vista. I am just trying to decide if I will use it enough to make it worth it.
Why not make the leap all together. I've been using Vista for 8 months now and couldn't be happier. I'm downloading the demo now (much to the dismay of my housemates, who are constantly downloading crap from rapidshare.) My system is 2.8ghz with 2gig ram and a 8600 GT using DX10. I'll let you all know how it goes.
Dude you have a gaming rig.....if you play games then you're going to use it:lol: For me I'm still deciding if I should spend a lof of dought again for a PC that will be almost obsolete in less than a year, or stick to my current rig (which is more than enough for any non-gaming tasks) and spend the money in a X360+HDTV. Without a Homeworld3 on the way I cant see a good reason to get yet another computer...
I purchased most of the components in this PC in August. Before that I was on a P3 system still so this machine seems insane to me still sometimes. It is just a single 8800 in there and I am on the Intel chipset so no SLI, so no true crazy gaming machine. It is great for HL2, Bioshock, and it really makes it great to go back and play older games at all high settings. You can build a decent machine for pretty cheap now if you shop around some. With the new Nvida 8800 GT it makes it even more affordable. In case you have not heard it is their new card that basically stomps on the GTS and tops the GTX in many benchmarks, and it costs $199-$250. Pretty impressive considering my card was $350ish.
Yeah I know I know, but is not just the GPU plus I cant get a midend right now or it wont be able to play Crysis nor any game that comes after that one. Therefore, to get a good gaming rig I've to spend upwards of $1500, plus a good LCD with no ghosting (and those arent cheap). Plus I didnt get to play almost anything of the last gen (128bit) since I only had a Gamecube and 2 computers (one in 2001, another in 2005) yet very few games to boot. That and I'm tired of having to install every fucking game I want to play, or having to do some cleaning on my system cuz the smallest piece of spyware can bring my FPS count from 120 to less than 30. Overall, I want simplicity, and only consoles have that.
