How about pressing AL+AR+Start to access all settings? Then you could press the D-pad direction 1, 2 or 3 times to make selections?

    So in other words:-
Press AL+AR+Start to enter 'Settings mode'
Then press D-Pad left to enter 'Button remap mode' or right to enter 'Advance config mode'
Then press a D-pad direction again to make a selection
Press AL+AR+Start (or just Start) to exit 'Settings mode'

So AL+AR+Start is like the adaptors 'Menu' button, and the D-pad allows you to select sub-menus until you reach the option you want. the great thing about this is its 'future proof' as you can keep adding as many sub-menus/options as you want.

    ...Just an idea

Good point, but rather than adding another menu level, AL+AR+Start will be like you said to enter the Config Mode. With D-pad you will access the various sub menu mentioned earlier. For remap button mode and reset layout, they will still use their previous button.

So with AL+AR+Start you get in the menu, if you press start again you enter button remap mode, if you press Z you reset button layout, if you press one d-pad direction you get into the corresponding sub-menu.

It think it's the best way to do it! Thank for help!

Btw since option selection is now a bit complicated, it will be hard to disable the build-in rumble for game that don't like it on boot.

So holding the d-pad (no combo needed) on boot in either direction will put the adapter in the mode corresponding to what will be available in the "Select adapter mode" sub-menu.

    Glad I could help :)

Sounds good, but I thought the adaptor saved current button/configuration settings? So for games that dont like rumble couldn't you just turn on console, disable rumble, then reset?

Adapter mode is volatile, only active button layout is saved, I will probably save the active memory bank later too,

You could do a reset since the current setting will stay in adapter RAM since the adapter itself don't reset but It's better to be able to do it on boot without need to reset the system.

I don't save adapter mode because that's something you gonna change often while using the very same game. So I think it's better to not save that and always default to rumble pak.

However button layout and memory pak will most likely change only when you choose to play another games later.

Don't know but you can get free sample directly from microchip.

You just need a school email or job email to get free shipping too.

    Anyway PICs cost nothing.

    200$??

Those Hori controller are far from easy to get, and their are way too small anyway. I used one for sometimes but never used tit again once I build my original Cube64.

And killing a modern controller for only a joystick doesn't sound quite interesting to me...

GC to N64 adapter cost like 15$ to build and you still able to use your GC controller with your GameCube and Wii.

There are only three wires on every N64 controller:

That is facing the N64 controller ports. Reverse the image when facing the cable. I don't know offhand if the wires are color coded but I can crack mine open later and check to see which is what if you need it.

Those Hori mini pads are crazy expensive for third-party, though. I saw one on ebay that ended at £70 or so. Ridiculous price.

yeah it has red / white / black leads coming onto the microphone board, just wanted to make sure the cables in the microphone are colored to match up those labels versus whippin out a multimeter

My Cube64 quit working on me a few months ago, and I've been too lazy to fix it. Looks like I'll be making this instead. Do you think it would be possible to use an SD card on the pic as a memory card? I know the memory card size would still be capped, but I'm just wondering.

Yeais it's possible SD card can be interfaced as SPI device so it would be easy to implement once I change the PIC used. Might be a cheaper and easier way than using an eeprom now that I think about it.. ;)
