Ever since i saw D2 for the dreamcast ive kept an eye out for it. Sometime last year or two me and yakumo were talking about the game and i came across this website... http://www.classicgaming.com/3dotoday/page2.html Here if you look at the so called M2 images of D2 you will see that the game had already taken a turn from the old castle D2 game to the new style DC game. Or maybe these are very very early shots of the DC version. Or even they could of started making this game for the saturn maybe? These pictures show the intro that was CG on the dreamcast is actually in game here. Also notice how poor the gfx are compared to the dreamcast.
I remember watching an FMV clip of D2 for the M2 system. I think Yakumo was the one who provided the video.
Yep thats the old M2 version of D2 set in an old house or castle and had swords and stuff. This was meant to of been changed for the Dreamcast but maybe it was done before on the m2...
I've put a nice D2 Promotional Videotape (still sealed) up for auction on VGA. Its a shame Warp went out of business as they were a very creative team and I really appreciate the diversity and design in the final D2.
great thread, and an interesting question. I am pretty sure it is D2 on the M2. I believe these pictures are from the prerendered CG that is played through M2's MPEG1 playback. If I recall, it was seen in 1996 before Dreamcast existed. even though this prerendered CG reminds us of the Dreamcast version of D2, I do believe it was actually from the M2 version. the actual M2 gameplay looked different, and featured what looked like a male, with a sword, in castle environments, outdoors and indoors (as we've seen those pictures many times, you probably know the ones i mean) D2 on M2 maybe Warp took the different looking prerendered CG FMV from the M2 and turned it into what became the Dreamcast game with the woman, in a snowy environment (i never played D2 on Dreamcast but i know a little about it). D2 on Dreamcast
OK, That first picture in this thread is indeed from the 2nd version of D2 for the M2. It's not real time but FMV. It seems to be the same intro as the Dreamcast version but using the old style Lara over the new one. By the way. I'm going to doa few early demo Vs Final game Dreamcast D2 shots just for this thread now. Yakumo
OK guys, I'm back with a load of pictures from the original M2 intro movie for D2 I've got to go out now but when I come back I'll make a new thread with Dreamcast D2 beta Vs D2 Final pictures. You'll be surprised !!..... maybe Yakumo
So there are infact 2 D2 games we are wanting to leak for the M2 and he true story as to why the old version was canned even before the game moved over to the dreamcast!
The D2 beta (also is it a GDR beta or some demo?) you have can you still walk around and shoot and stuff? like in the first conference where they showed the game and the dreamcast? Has anyone got video from that conference?
A long FMV exists for D2 on M2 (in fact, 2 FMV, one shorter but with the same sequences). You can find it on some demo discs for 3DO. If I have time and if you want, I can make a video of it.
You can ride a snowbike anywhere you'd like but can't walk. The snowbike sections are also different to the final game plus has a 1st person view There are far as I remember no enemies to fight. The beta also has a different voice for parker plus the audio all together is quite weak. I have some of that D2 show that I ripped and put on to my FTP. Shows Lara and the play area. I know people who went to that show and said the game kept crashing plus Lara would fall through the floor. Yakumo
that's because the M2 shots are pre-rendered CG FMV, not generated on-the-fly on M2, only played back on M2's MPEG decoder. like any pre-rendered CG intro on PS1, PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, etc. whereas the Dreamcast D2 shots are realtime, in-engine, generated on Dreamcast, on-the-fly. unless you were talking about these shots which are realtime on M2
gigadrive: it was the CGI i was talking about and the other picture reminds me of a soupedup version of Ecstatica
D2 on M2 looks very nice. The original M2 intro movie for D2 is on the retail japanese DC version (at disk 2 or 3, I don't remember well now), a save from the D2 demo is needed to unlock it. Also, a credits video on Enemy Zero has some material of M2 D2.
