http://www.dark-alex.org/ Bye, scene. I've decided to cease OE development, and leave PSP scene. The reasons are various. One of them is the time it consumes, which i'm losing from other things. The other is related to my security. I didn't like Sony menaces to PS3 hackers. I think it is better to leave now rather than end paying the consequences.
He was making 3.51 OE with Mathieulh so he'll probably just help him out and he'll take over, or at least that's what I hope.
Mathieulh is now stating that he is not quiting the psp scene but wont be continuing the OE firmware. So no 3.5.1 OE firmware. I guess people will have to put hope into the IE custom firmware.
I sense some hostility toward him? I'm not really involved in the PSP scene, so I wouldn't know, but if someone could possibly fill me in..?
I will really miss him. I talked to him a couple times at maxconsole and he really is the greatest PSP hacker around. Dont worry though, the scene is so strong now that I doubt it can be stopped. Someone else will step up to the plate and gain skills just as DA did. We still have all kinds of great people working for us. Fajanta (spelling?) of Noobz and his team are awsome PSP hackers as well as many more.
Yeah, I sorta fail to feel sorry for the scores of 15-year-olds using the OE firmware to play downloaded ISO's and pirated snes games.
I dunno, I know a few 15 year olds who could own even the most seasoned technical veteran. Then again, for every skilled kid I've seen, there are dozen or so n00bs. :noooo: The scene is just like a drug ring, when one goes down, 2 more come up, cause of the fame and appreciation involved.
It is trully a sad day for the psp scene, but as you say there are many more psp hackers around so there no need to worry. And btw it's Fanjita
I understand where you are coming from, but without OE we wouldn't be able to play our original PS1 games without purchasing them AGAIN and that's only if it's one of the select few titles available. Sony should have released a utility to play your original PS1 games on your PSP IMO. Well that's what I use my PSP for these days anyway :110:
ethics aside, the challenge and the accomplishment of such a feat is something that once more has proven how humans can circumvent each-other's security it's a nice game of ping-pong between opposite sides. Regarding the piracy point, I do enjoy playing my beloved SNES and other games on the go. That's why I have scummVM on my mobile phone for example. Like a good book, a good game can bring back memories and all the fun! I haven't got a PSP yet, but I hope to get one soon.

@opethfan that's very unusual - in fact that would be exceptional. I know many people that are into reversing hardware, and have never met anyone under the age of 23 that was (seriously) good. These things take passion, but also time. The good PSP chaps are all in their end 20's, start 30's , and technically could easily continue on OE, but are not interested. (E.g. Tyranid) tubo
Yeah, most of the young coders in the psp scene are making crap like lua games that barely do anything (yeah yeah, gotta start somewhere).
